Hello!
PTA programs rely on a cadre of volunteers who donate their time to these events and programs. It is not unusual to see people working on more than one activity or at multiple events. The Holiday Faire is a wonderful success each year because of the many, many volunteers who are involved. A special thanks to Libby Beasley, Kristin Galvin, and Carla Sakrison for leading the effort this year.
If your New Year's resolution was to do a little good in your community, the Tutoring Program is still in search of volunteers to work one hour a week with a child who needs a little extra help. Your attention will provide tangible benefits to a student. Contact Renee Greenstein wnay@greensteinfam.com to realize your New Year's resolution.
If you have one spare hour at lunch once a week or every other week, the Hot Lunch team could use a few more volunteers on Tuesday and Friday. This is a great way for working parents to help at school. One mother who works in the area touts hot lunch volunteering as an excellent way to get on campus, see her kids and help out with a PTA program. All you need to do is commit to being there--no preplanning is involved-and you get to experience the very lively and social noon time recess AND chat with other parents. Contact Julia Massa gershenberg@sbcgloabl.net if you are intrigued by the idea.
Last week, the Science Fair completed the PTA's lineup of large sponsored events for the year. We'd like to thank the Science Fair team-PJ Utz, Sarah Bodary, and Bardia Pezeshki for their efforts in organizing the fair itself and inspiring the students to create these experiments through a series of lunchtime sessions where they discussed the scientific process, advised on experiments and helped organize posters. The Science Fair team was also helped by the La Entrada Science Department team-John Akers, Whitney Thwaite and Joanne Tinkham-who volunteered their time to judge the Science Fair and helped their students with their projects outside of the classroom. This was a remarkable effort and we thank the volunteers and teachers who were involved and the students who participated.
We'd also like to thank Bobbie Woods, Catalina Vail, and Sandra Cheek for organizing the Spelling Bee the first week of January. Students from all five grade levels competed for bragging rights as the master speller of La Entrada. This is a traditional event the PTA is thrilled to sponsor each year.
While sitting in a district-wide meeting today, Sue Sartor mentioned the 100th day of school was rapidly approaching....it hardly feels like school started in August and here the home stretch is just around the corner.
Our next PTA General Meeting is Wednesday, February 9, 9:15 am in the MUR. Please join us for this meeting. We promise delicious Peets' coffee (thanks to Michael at the El Camino store) and some social time afterwards.
See you there!
Marsha Abbott and Lucia Tedesco

News from Kathy Ruwe, Las Lomitas School Counselor
La Entrada Parents! Please join us for a timely and important workshop being offered at Las Lomitas titled The Importance of Play in Healthy Child Development on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 from 10:30-12:00 in Cano Hall.
We are fortunate to be able to once again invite Jim Lobdell, district dad and co-founder of the Stanford-based Challenge Success program back to Las Lomitas. If you have heard him speak before, you know what an outstanding speaker he is. Join us for the brand new thought-provoking, interactive workshop that will help you better understand:
- The immediate and long term benefits of play
- The barriers that make it difficult today for kids to "just play"
- Practical ways to allow kids more time for unstructured play
Click here for a flyer with more details. This workshop is for adults only. Please feel free to bring a friend.

ONE WEEK TO GO! $80,000 IS ON THE LINE.
We are one week away from our Challenge Grant deadline. We are currently at a 70% participation rate and need 87 families to give before January 31st. If you have not yet made your donation, please do so today. You can donate online by clicking here.
The Foundation has moved the fundraising deadline to the end of January because we need to complete the majority of our fundraising before the School Board makes their decisions about budget allocations for next year. The needs of the District are high - now mostly driven by increased student enrollment. Additional teachers and more classrooms are needed to bring class sizes down to our historical lows. New salaries and new portable classrooms require investment and the Foundation hopes to fund a part of it.
We have $80,000 on the line. We need to hit 80% participation among families. This challenge grant is real money and will nearly fund a new teacher.
Please give now. Visit www.llef.org/paypal to donate. Below are the participation rates by class.
Thank you.
