CHALLENGE GRANT UPDATE:
We did it! The Foundation is thrilled to announce that we have met, and actually exceeded, the $250,000 dollar-for-dollar matching portion of the Challenge Grant! And, we did it three weeks before our deadline!
Inspired by this success and to continue the momentum, the dollar-for-dollar Challenge Grant has been infused with additional new funds to continue to match any new or increased gifts up to $345,000. As of today, we have already matched $286,000 of new and increased gifts and still have $59,000 more available to be matched! For those families who have yet to donate, we hope that these matching funds will motivate you to stretch your giving to help the Foundation reach our $2,000 per student goal.
Also, many families have told us that they simply cannot give in 2010 and have asked that the Foundation free up some Challenge Grant funds to be earned in 2011. To accommodate this request, we are extending our Challenge Grant deadline to January 31, 2011.
On the $80,000 Participation Grant, we have a ways to go. Currently, our family participation rate stands at 49%. While this rate is 20 basis points above the highest level ever for early December, which is encouraging, we need an 80% participation rate to earn the $80,000 portion of the Grant fund. Every gift of any size counts towards this goal.
Let's keep the momentum going. Click here to donate today.

THE SCIENCE FAIR IS BACK!
It's that time of year again - time for the annual La Entrada Science Fair, to be held on the evening of January 19-21, 2011. This is a great experience for students and for parents to come up with a cool science idea, develop a hypothesis, design and carry out an experiment, and then present the results at the Science Fair. We all use the scientific method every day and don't even know it - when cooking a meal, kicking a soccer ball on a windy day, or even walking in the rain or doing the dishes!
Our parent volunteers (PJ Utz and Sarah Bodary) are scientists, and one is a professor at Stanford, and they will help you and your child with all aspects of the project - brainstorming ideas, designing experiments, and putting together a poster to present on the night of the Science Fair.
Please encourage your son or daughter to attend one of the lunchtime Science Fair Planning Meetings in Room 52 (Mrs Tinkham's class) on Mon 12/13 and Fri 12/17 when volunteers will go over how to put together a fun and educational project. If you have any questions, please feel free to email PJ Utz.
