Infamous Stringdusters
infamousAbout the most important question a young bluegrass band faces right out of the gate is whether they can play. The Infamous Stringdusters wasted no time in providing their answer, an emphatic "yes", winning IBMA Album, Song, and Emerging Artist of the Year the very same year they released their debut, Fork In the Road. On Things That Fly, their third album, due out April 20, 2010 on Sugar Hill, they venture into virtually uncharted territory for an acoustic group; a sonically and thematically expansive album that lends itself to absorbed listening from start to finish, much like the great rock albums do.

Mosaic with Stone Workshop @ Ciel Gallery
mosaicThis workshop will familiarize students with the use and cleaving properties of marble as well as varied minerals and stones using hammer and hardie, the traditional mosaic tools. We'll explore designs in abstract form, using the properties of selected stones as inspiration and influence. We'll also explore the use of classical andamento along with lesser known variations applicable to modern expressions in new designs and forms. Above all this class is meant to encourage freedom of artistic expression using non-traditional mosaic material. Sophie is a second generation mosaic artist from Ontario, Canada trained in the Modern Italian style. She enjoys the diversity of mosaic possibilities when both teaching and creating, and particularly likes to innovate using both traditional and unique materials and textures, from marble to raw minerals, metallic elements and dimensional accents. This class will include an introductory evening session on Friday (6:30 - 9:00), and continue all day Saturday and Sunday. To see more of Sophie's work, visit her website at www.sophiemosaics.com. Electric Friends @ Dharma
efriendsWhat makes this dynamic DJ group stand out from the rest is their collaboration of musical styles ranging across the board. "We all come from different backgrounds, so you get an interesting mix", explains Matthew Bowers (a.k.a. CMNDer). Jeff ET brings "disco and all forms of house music" (and is one of the few local DJ's to stick with vinyl), CMNDer provides more "techouse," and Machete incorporates it all. They may all have different styles, but all three members share a common passion for the music they play. "DJing isn't really a job for us," says Bowers. "We bring a lot of energy when we're all DJing, and we feel like people notice that."
