The Parsons Dance Company
parsonsThe Parsons Dance Company is a contemporary dance troupe founded by choreographer David Parsons. The company consists of ten full-time dancers and maintains a repertory of more than 70 works, 20 of which feature commissioned original scores by composers and musicians including Dave Matthews, Michael Gordon and Milton Nascimento. Parsons Dance has been broadcast on television through PBS, Bravo, A&E and Discovery channels. They also performed in Times Square as part of the televised Millennium New Year's Eve Celebration.

A Sign Of The Times 10th Annual Black History Concert

2010 marks the 10th anniversary for 'A Sign Of The Times of the Carolinas' presenting community-based programs and an annual Black History Concert in March. The theme of this year's production is "THE STORY OF OUR FAMILY". Narrated by Actor/Director Quentin Talley of "On Q" Productions, "The Story Of Our Family" will tell the story of the origins of the human family and of Black folks in America. A production like this is especially important for children and young adults who may not have been exposed to this information in such an entertaining and educational fashion. This production will feature faculty and alumni from North Carolina Central University's Jazz Studies Program, Master Drummer Gary Mumford, Violinist Sai, and of course the 20-piece "A Sign of the Times Big Band".

heidiThe stunning soprano Heidi Meier returns to wow Charlotte audiences with the rarely heard Concerto for Coloratura Soprano, in an all-Russian program conducted by Christof Perick. Tchaikovsky's passionate and brooding final Symphony, written in the composer's last year, brings the concert to a dramatic conclusion. Pre-concert talk @ 7 pm. Christof Perick, conducting Heidi Meier, soprano. You will hear: Glinka Overture to Ruslan and Ludmilla , Gliere Concerto for Coloratura Soprano and Tchaikovsky  Symphony No. 6 "Pathétique"

On Q Productions season of African American family themed plays will have a special "Sunday Dinner" series highlighting the tradition of African American family with talk backs featuring the playwright and cast, mixing, mingling, music, and of course food. The Sunday Dinner, provided by Mert's Heart & Soul Restaurant, will take place at the new Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts & Culture. This Third "Sunday Dinner" Series features the cast and crew of The Mojo & The Sayso, along with other members of the community, as we talk about the issues in the play, while having dinner. Don't miss out on this entertaining and enlightening night focused on today's relationships. There will be a relationship panel featuring some of Charlotte's best relationship counselors. Be inspired by one of many upcoming relationship repair courses of the year! This event is for couples and singles.
