Bodies: Steel and Skin DOMA Gallery presents " Bodies: Steel and Skin", an exhibition featuring photographic images from Bryce Lankard and Daniel Stein which include abstract nudes and details of classic cars that illustrate the timeless beauty of curves and lines, shadow and light. Bryce Lankard has exhibited in France, Spain, Germany, New Orleans and New York. His solarized photographs of nudes celebrate the female form by drawing the viewer's eye to its abstract essence through dynamic lighting and composition. Daniel Stein is a California based photographer who was influenced at an early age by his grandfather to develop a passion for the beauty and power of automotive design. By placing nudes and automobiles in the same exhibition, the viewer is able to discern the unique properties of photography and how it is able to achieve an individual focus on form, light and composition and the parallels that may be made between seemingly disparate bodies of work. When: Now - January 15, 2010 Where: DOMA Gallery - 1310 S. Tryon Street Charlotte, NC More Info: www.domaart.com
Bechtler Museum of Modern Art Grand Opening
The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art opens to the public January 2, 2010 with a ribbon cutting ceremony at noon and free admission all day. The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art is named after the family of Andreas Bechtler, a Charlotte resident and native of Switzerland who assembled and inherited a collection of more than 1,400 artworks created by major figures of 20th-century modernism and donated it to the public trust. The Bechtler collection reflects most of the important art movements and schools from the 20th century with a deep holding of the School of Paris. In many instances, the holdings by a particular artist are across various media (painting, sculpture, drawing, prints and decorative arts). Only a handful of the artworks in the Bechtler collection have been on public view in the United States. Until now, the collection was privately held by the Bechtler family of Switzerland and has since been committed to the city of Charlotte. When: Saturday, January 2, 2010 @ 12:00 p.m. Where: The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art More Info: www.bechtler.org
