On My Own Time - Opens October 13

The On My Own Time exhibit at the Everson Museum of Art, 401 Harrison Street in Downtown Syracuse, will open to the public on Saturday, October 13 and run through Sunday, November 11. This has been an outstanding year, with eighteen companies taking part, including seven companies brand-new to the program. With the addition of SUNY-Oswego and Entergy, On My Own Time has now expanded participation from Oswego County. See the side bar for a full list of participating companies.

Work from sixty-seven amateur artists will be on exhibit, featuring an eclectic range of mediums, such as metal work, fiber art, marble sculpture, water colors, acrylics, oils, ink, photography, and more. A complimentary catalog will be available at the exhibit, featuring participating companies and artists.

On My Own Time, which will celebrate its 40th year in 2013, was created by the Cultural Resources Council of Syracuse and Onondaga County (now CNY Arts, see below), in cooperation with the Everson Museum
of Art, to encourage local businesses, nonprofits, government, and civic organizations to identify, celebrate, and promote creativity among employees who are also artists 'on their own time'.

Partnerships like these help the business and arts sectors in Central New York to discover that many of their goals overlap, and demonstrate how they can promote these mutual interests with shared projects. On My Own Time 2013 begins in March. To get more information on how your business can become involved, please visit www.cnyarts.org, call Kara Greene at 315.935.6005 or
e-mail omot@mycnyarts.org.

Visit www.everson.org for hours of operations.

Cultural Resources Council is now CNY Arts

CNY Arts is the new name for the Cultural Resources Council of Syracuse and Onondaga County. The name change and rebranding more accurately reflect the organization's expanded service area across 6000 square miles of Central New York, as well as its ongoing mission to promote, support, and celebrate arts and culture.

Keep an eye out for our new logo (to the right) as we gradually transition our branding in all of our communications.

Panelists needed!
The effectiveness and integrity of the above programs depends on the time and energies of volunteer panelists who evaluate the applications and participate in meetings to recommend the distribution of funds. Since requests always exceed the available resources, it can be hard work for everyone involved. But panelists know that they are helping to provide vital support for the cultural life of our Central New York communities.

With a 6000 square mile service area, covering Cortland, Herkimer, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, and Oswego counties, we require a diverse array of individuals with a background or active interest in the arts to assist us with this work. We will conduct six different panel reviews during November and December and we need your help.

For more information click here or send your resumes to mikei@cnyarts.org.

Decentralization grants are made possible with public funds through the State and Local Partnership program of the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency.
