Artists Wanted for Tribute Performance

Artistically Speaking: A Tribute to Mark J. Wright

On Sunday, January 30th, 2011 friends and colleagues of Mark J. Wright from the Central New York Arts Community will gather to honor the man and his work.

A committee has formed to organize: Artistically Speaking: A Tribute to Mark J. Wright, a celebratory afternoon of art and performance to honor the life, dedication and selfless service of Mark J. Wright to the artistic heritage of Central New York.


Artistically Speaking: A Tribute to Mark J. Wright

Time: 1-5 PM
Location: John H. Mulroy Civic Center - Carrier Theater, 421 Montgomery Street, Syracuse New York
Suggested Donation Scale ($5.00-$50.00)

Proceeds from this event will establish the Mark J. Wright Scholarship for Young Artists
at the Central New York Community Foundation

The event seeks to capture and salute the breath of individual artists, cultures, art forms and artistic organizations Mark Wright touched and supported throughout his career.

If you or your organization would like to perform or be part of a visual arts showcase to honor Mark J. Wright please notify Carol Charles at: cdcharle@gmail.com.

We are seeking photographs of Mark at arts and cultural events to include in a slide show that will run throughout the performance. Please send jpegs of your images to: cdcharle@gmail.com.

Spoken tributes are also welcome. If Mark touched your life in any way we invite you to share your memories. Please send us a copy of your thoughtfully prepared remarks. You are welcome to present these precious memories yourself or if you prefer, someone will share them on your behalf. Written tributes may also become part of the written text of the Artistically Speaking program.

Performers/Presenters will each be allotted a maximum of 7 minutes to present their work. Visual artists are invited to submit one piece for the visual art showcase in Mark's honor and or a slide to include in the slide presentation. The slide presentation will run throughout the event.

Please notify the Tribute Committee asap regarding your participation - (Notification Deadline is January 10)

Artists Wanted for Magazine

CNY Art Showcase Magazine by Eastwood Rotary

The Eastwood Rotary Club and Foundation in Syracuse, NY is seeking artist contributions for their 2nd annual CNY Art Showcase Magazine, festival and auction.


Due to popular demand, the CNY Art Showcase Magazine 2011 edition will be starting at a distribution of 7,500 copies (up from 3,000 in 2010).

Artists are encouraged to submit 2 pieces or collections that would sell for at least $200 each to be featured in the magazine. These pieces become the property of Eastwood Rotary Foundation and will be used by the Rotary Foundation to raise funds for charitable projects. The money raised from the auction this year will be primarily for the St Joseph's Hospital Urgent Care expansion.

The Cultural Resources Council Visual Arts Program and Syracuse Stage present, "Where Theater and Visual Arts Meet," a visual exhibition of the compelling Syracuse Stage production of "RENT".
 
Submission Guidelines:
Size: No larger than 40" x 50"
Media: Includes but not limited to illustration, drawing, painting, collage and photography
Submission Format for Review: CD, Slides or Colorized Sketches accepted
EXTENDED Deadline- January 4, 2011

Public Artist Reception will be held on January 20, 2011

More Calls for Artists


Made in NY 2011 Exhibit Schweinfurth Art Center is seeking entries for the annual Made in NY exhibition juried this year by Kenise Barnes and Kim Waale.  Open to all artists living in NYS and 2 & 3-dimensional work will be accepted including, but not limited to, painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, ceramics, fiber and media art. All work must be completed in the last three years.  Artists may submit up to two artworks for consideration. Entry is free for members and $25 for non-members. Deadline is January 15, 2011. Westcott Community Center Art Gallery

Workshops/Classes/Group Meetings

LCI InEW: World Class Professional Development Professional artists and educators offer high-quality instruction in the development of skills of imagination, creativity, and innovation as part of LCI's rigorous approach, known as imaginative learning. Any pre-K through grade 12 teacher, school and/or arts administrator, teaching artist, curriculum developer, or college/university professor may attend; in-service and graduate credit available. Workshops will take place July 11-15 and July 18-22, 2011 and on other dates at sites around the country.

Watercolor Workshops by Catherine Bennett
Artwork Ten and Believers Chapel are sponsoring these workshops monthly through December on Tuesday nights. October's workshop "Color Choices For Watercolor" will include color theory, pigment properties and the decision making process for color selections. Catherine Bennett has shown in the National Watercolor Society show and is represented by a prominent Florida gallery. Her work can be viewed on line at www.artworkten.com. World Dance & Drum Classes
 Wacheva Cultural Arts offers World Dance & Drum Classes in West African dance & drum, Salsa, Samba, NIA, Belly dance, Zumba, Kazoon (afro-modern), Flamenco , Ballroom and women's drumming; Monday - Sunday. Y Arts
Register for classes in pottery, drawing, painting, ballroom dance, jazz and ballet. Classes are available to everyone, from preschoolers through adults. Each session lasts for 6 weeks and all art materials are supplied by the Y Arts Studio. Open to YMCA Members and

Glass Classes Glass artist Amber Blanding offers instruction at Brennan Stained Glass Studio every Tuesday 6-9pm for Hot Glass Bead Making and every Thursday 6-9pm for Fused Glass Jewelry classes. There are also ongoing Stained Glass Classes every Wednesday night from 6-9pm taught by Brennan's staff. Once you take a class in the basics of either glass class you can come in for Open Studio Time and use the fully equipped studio by the hour, click HERE
