Foundation names Mary W.C. Daly and Edward C. Handy III to board of directors
Please join us in welcoming Mary W.C. "Polly" Daly of Providence and Edward O. "Ned" Handy III of East Greenwich who have been elected to five-year terms on the Foundation board of directors.
David M. Hirsch, Foundation chairman, noted, "Polly and Ned bring outstanding professional experience and expertise to our board. They have demonstrated their leadership in our community in countless ways and we are delighted to welcome them to the Foundation."
With this appointment, Polly Daly continues a long tradition of family involvement with the Foundation. Her father, John Wall, was a Foundation director from 1994 to 2005. After earning an undergraduate degree from Brown University and an M.B.A. from Harvard, Polly enjoyed a distinguished career in banking, retiring in 2007 from the Royal Bank of Scotland, where she served as managing director and head of corporate credit, Americas. She returned to Rhode Island in 2008 and currently serves as a trustee of Community Preparatory School, as treasurer of the Harvard Business School Association of Southeastern New England, and on the investment committee of the Episcopal Diocese of Rhode Island.
Ned Handy has been president of Citizens Bank, Rhode Island since 2009 and took on added responsibility for Connecticut in 2010. He was previously president of Charter One, Ohio. Also a graduate of Brown University, Ned serves on the boards of Crossroads Rhode Island, Delta Dental of Rhode Island, the Providence Foundation, and the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce, and is a member of the Providence College President's Council and the Rhode Island Commodores.
The Rhode Island Foundation's 15-member board of directors is responsible for setting policy at the Foundation. The state's only community foundation, The Foundation is a public charity that gave $29.2 million in grants to support nonprofit organizations in 2010. |
