Please join us in welcoming Marie J. Langlois of Providence to the Foundation board of directors. Marie, who recently retired as managing director of Washington Trust Investors, has been elected to a five-year term on the community foundation board.
 
"We are indeed fortunate to have Marie join our board of directors. She is an accomplished financial investment professional with more than 30 years of experience and she has demonstrated her passion for community service and philanthropy in various leadership roles," stated David M. Hirsch, Foundation chairman. "Marie's personal commitment to our state's nonprofit sector and her outstanding professional background will truly benefit the Foundation and all Rhode Islanders," Hirsch noted.

And Foundation thanks outgoing board member Peter S. Damon

Peter S. Damon, having fulfilled a 10-year tenure, has stepped down from the Foundation board of directors. In the past decade, Damon also served on the advisory committee of the Newport County Fund, as well as chairman of nearly every Foundation board committee, from audit to development and from governance to investment, He will continue this year as chair of the investment committee.

 
At a reception honoring Damon, Foundation Chairman Hirsch stated, "As notable as all your service has been, it cannot begin to describe your contributions to the Foundation. You are a wise counselor, an astute facilitator, and a creative problem solver. In the past decade, you have helped steer this organization to new levels of engagement and advocacy, balancing the interests of our donors with the needs of the community."

 

Foundation President and CEO Neil D. Steinberg continued, "We are truly grateful for your decade of service to the Foundation and to the Rhode Island community. You have generously shared your time and many talents, and the state's nonprofit community is stronger for it."

Bryant University hosts annual economic forum

Rhode Island's political, nonprofit, academic, and business leaders will gather at Bryant University on Tuesday, March 8 for an economic forum, The Rhode Island Business Environment: Challenges and Opportunities.

Issues to be addressed include: the relocation sweepstakes, the costs of doing business, and the Rhode Island Regulatory System. Keynote speaker is Governor Lincoln D. Chafee.
