In keeping with the Foundation's commitment to improve public education in Rhode Island, Foundation President & CEO Neil Steinberg wrote an op-ed which appears in today's Providence Journal.

 

A member of the Race to the Top steering committee, Steinberg notes, in part, "A strong system of public education - one that effectively prepares students for higher education and the jobs of the future - is the foundation on which a robust economy is built. So much hinges on this that The Rhode Island Foundation, the state's largest funder of nonprofit organizations, has made improving public education a top priority of our grantmaking, community outreach, and proactive fundraising in the next five years.

"Only effective system-wide reform of Rhode Island's public education will transform our aspirations into reality. Fortunately, there is reason for hope."
