Medical students from Brown University listened to advice and stories from a panel of LGBTQ doctors and residents at a recent event sponsored by Equity Action and organized by GLAAM (Gays, Lesbians, and Allies Advancing Medicine), a group supported by Brown's Office of Medical Minority Affairs (OMMA).
Held at The Rhode Island Foundation the evening of March 9, this was the first gathering of its kind in Providence. Not only did the event provide a unique learning opportunity for medical students to ask questions about the LGBTQ experience in their field, but physicians and residents also had an opportunity to network and offer support to each other. Another great outcome of the event - residents signed up to be part of a new mentoring program for LGBTQ students.
