Foundation focuses its philanthropy, leadership, and impact

Citing the need to increase philanthropy by demonstrating to donors the real impact of their investments in Rhode Island, Foundation President and CEO Neil D. Steinberg today announced the Foundation's new streamlined, more responsive approach to grantmaking and its focus on two economic drivers, public education and health. "We will continue to fund not only education and health, but also arts, environment, human services, and community and economic development," noted Steinberg, adding, "Public education and health are areas that require immediate attention if Rhode Island is to come out of its current economic decline." Steinberg optimistically added, "When people drive into Rhode Island, we want them to see signs on the highways that say, 'Home of the top education system in the United States.'"

ArticleCommunity meetings next week!

Come to a community meeting to learn more about our new, more responsive approach to grantmaking, including rolling applications, faster turnaround time, and funding for general operating support. In an article in today's Providence Journal (see above), Neil Steinberg noted the changes are designed to "respond to the nonprofits' deadlines, not ours."

We are hosting five community meetings around the state the week of January 18th; Neil Steinberg will discuss our new strategic direction and Vice President for Grant Programs Owen Heleen will explain the resulting improvements to our grant programs.
