Initiative for Nonprofit Excellence gears up for fall with Board Development Program, refocused Fellows Program
Fidelity Investments Board Development Program
Back and better than ever, thanks in part to feedback received from past participants, the Fidelity Investments Board Development Program kicks off this fall with the first session on September 15. Led by Frank Monti, CPA, Boards 101 provides an overview of the basic roles of boards, with particular emphasis on legal and fiduciary responsibilities.
Other sessions include: October 7: Financial Sustainability helps board members understand their role in safeguarding the financial viability of the organization. November 19: Board/Staff Relationships recognizes that the board and staff of any nonprofit must work hand-in-hand to ensure appropriate and flexible management and governance. However, even with the best of intentions the relationship can be fraught with difficulty. December 3: Strategic Planning and Succession Planning provides board members with a framework for thinking, planning and acting strategically for big impact. See full program descriptions and access online registration.
The Initiative's Fellows Program - given the increased fiscal pressure experienced by nonprofit organizations and demand for more/new/improved programs and services - has a new focus for 2010. The new "research and development" emphasis will enable applicants to develop a personal plan to help them discover the "next great idea" for their organization.
As many as 12 executive directors from the nonprofit and public sectors will receive up to $10,000 for their proposed program activities, and their nonprofit organization will receive up to $5,000 to support the leader's time away from daily operations.
