oil-producing state

Oct. 28, 2009 - BISMARCK, N.D. - North Dakota has surpassed Louisiana as the fourth-largest oil-producing state in the nation, the U.S. Energy Department says.
 
The agency's Energy Information Administration said North Dakota produced 6.38 million barrels of crude in May, edging Louisiana, which had 6.34 million barrels for the month. Oklahoma was ranked fifth, at 5.7 million barrels for that month, according to the most recent figures. Oil production data typically lags at least two months. Read More.

Ken Callahan, MDU's distric manager in Williston.Oct. 27, 2009 - Ken Callahan, district manager for Montana-Dakota Utilities Company (MDU) re-located to Williston from Bismarck last December. Ken and his wife, JoAnn, have fallen in love with the area and have decided to purchase property, build their dream log home next spring and have plans to eventually retire here.
 
Being raised in Boston, Mass., Callahan notices the apparent differences in culture. "Williston has good hometown values and the people have great attitudes here." Read More.

Oct. 16, 2009 - AUSTIN, Texas - Oil and gas company Brigham Exploration Co. on Friday said that one of its wells in the Bakken Shale produced an initial rate of about 2,112 barrels of oil equivalent per day.

Brigham shares rose 51 cents, or 5.2 percent, to $10.30 in morning trading. Earlier in the day, shares reached $10.73, a new 52-week high for the stock. Read More.

Oct. 20, 2009 - BISMARCK, N.D. - North Dakota is again setting monthly oil production records and may be on pace to set a record for the year, state and industry officials said Tuesday.

It's a turnaround from just a few months ago, when slipping crude prices and a slumping U.S. economy led officials to believe last year's record production in the state's oil patch might never be surpassed. Now officials are happily eating crow. Read More.

This well was drilled with a 5,000 foot lateral in this objective and has produced 29,000 barrels during the intervening period. The production rate has been lower than expected at around 100 BOPD. This is among the largest number of stages ever run using a ball/sleeve method for isolation. The Baker Oil Tools FracPoint™ EX multistage fracturing system (FracPoint EX) used on the Ogden 11-3H well allowed the single-trip isolation of 24 intervals with an 8,000-psi pressure rating, while achieving high frac rates through all the ball seats. New tax formula means more
funds for oil counties

Oct. 24, 2009 - Changes in the state's distribution of oil and gas taxes could mean more money for road repairs and other capital projects in some of North Dakota's energy counties.
 
The new formula, adopted by the 2009 Legislature, reduces the state's share of collected taxes and gives more to counties, cities and schools. Mountrail County, which capped out under the old formula last year after receiving only two monthly payments, is expecting a larger, more steady revenue stream this next year. Read More.

The owner of a $200,000 house would receive an average property-tax savings of $675 based on school-tax reductions instituted by the 2009 Legislature, Fong said at the Magic City CPAs' luncheon in Minot Friday. Read More.

Trail of Treats will be held from 2:30pm to 5:00pm. Children ages 12 and under and their escorts are invited to "Trick or Treat" at participating Chamber member business locations. Williston State College has planned rededication ceremonies for its veterans' memorial at 6 p.m. on the WSC Plaza. The event will be followed by a World War II Roughrider Honor Flight Reception at 7 p.m. in the Teton Grill. The public is welcome to attend.
