Greetings!
This is our last missive of 2008, and we're pulling out all the stops to get you back into your favorite local bookstore during this hectic but joyous season of giving. Newsletter subscribers will again be rewarded for your loyalty: at the end of this email is a coupon, good this Friday only, for 10% off your entire purchase. And you're the first to know about the one-week sale on all our new and used CDs which starts tomorrow. We're also extending our hours in the last few days before Christmas, opening at 9:00 am starting on December 20th. You can order from us online, of course, and we'll ship books, gift cards, etc. anywhere in the world. Or you can use our curbside delivery: call us with your shopping list and we'll pull the books, charge your credit card and have them ready to run out to the curb when you pull up. It's an easy way to get your books faster than that (cough cough) "leading online retailer" can deliver them while supporting your favorite indie bookstore so we'll be here when you need us. Herein, today, too, is a recap of our 2008 Books of the Month, some great new books for kids and young adults, some fresh remainders, and a cookbook round-up. And my favorite of our 2008 innovations (and further evidence that we'll try anything to get you here) is our first Men's Night, with free beer. Perhaps we're crazy, but we really want to help male shoppers in need, y'know: those flummoxed, helpless (thirsty) men who need recommendations for gifts for their kids, partner, parents, teachers, etc. Details below. Oh, and feel free to spread the word, but please do so judiciously, as this can't be legal, let alone smart. . . . We hope to see you in the store soon, and thanks, as always for all your support. --Pete et al. |

Men's night (free beer) Dads, husbands, sons: need help finding the right gift for your kids, wife, or ma? Stop by Green Apple on Sunday evening, December 14, between 6 and 10 pm. Ask a Green Appler for some advice on gifts for those on your list. We'll hand you an ice-cold beer and show you a few fine gift ideas.

Children's books
People tend to think of Green Apple for its used book selection, sense of humor, quirky gifts, or huge fiction section, but Bay Area parents in the know will tell you that our children's and young adult sections are very well curated. Here are six recently published gems for kids or young adults to consider. And if these don't appeal, there's always a knowledgeable Green Appler on hand to help you sort through the many and varied offerings in our kids section.

Sale books Our remainders are often the best deals in the store: as-new books at prices lower than used books! Our sale tables are bursting right now with deals, but to tempt you in, here are five gems that have arrived recently.
A Charley Harper retrospective (very limited quantites--act fast); a tin of 26 pop-up Christmas cards for $9.98; a drawing book for kids; the collected non-fiction of Joan Didion; and a mystery that's so much more. See them all here or stop by to browse our remainder displays.

Cooking Roundup
In the most recent Tablehopper (a lively weekly email round-up of local food and drink news), I reviewed seven cookbooks that make perfect gifts for a wide variety of cooks and foodies, from the non-cook to the vegetarian, from the restaurateur to the line cook. See them all here. Or, to see those books AND other recently published food/cooking gems, click here. |
