Benioff's pick
David Benioff's unputdownable new novel City of Thieves is our Book of the Month. Click here to read why.
Mr. Benioff was kind enough to recommend a book to you, our beloved customers. Here's why he loves Dirty Snow by Georges Simenon:
"While Simenon achieved worldwide
fame with his excellent detective series featuring Inspector Maigret, his
greatest work is this standalone novel set in an unnamed occupied country
during World War II. Frank, the teenage sociopath who serves as the
story's anti-hero, is hard to love and impossible to forget. As a
protagonist he's the unholy (and biologically impossible) offspring of
Graham Green's Pinkie Brown and Camus' Meursault.
"This is not
the book to while away a summer afternoon while sipping lemonade through a
straw. But if you like your noir with no cream or sugar, there is no finer
novel in the genre." --David Benioff, author of City of Thieves

Free old desk & filing cabinets
We recently unearthed two filing cabinets and an old desk we would like to pass on to another home. The old desk, pictured at left, is handsome, sturdy, and heavy. It's about 36" deep, 30" high, and 66" long. It's in decent shape, and it's yours free if you can pick it up. Or, for $25, we'll get it to the sidewalk in front of your house if you live in the Avenues. First-come, first served. More details here. Reply to this email with the subject "DESK" if you're interested.
The filing cabinets are old, dark green, and in good condition. They're 18" wide and 54" tall (4 drawers). Also free to the first interested party with the same west-side $25 delivery option available. If you want them, reply to this email with "FILING CABINETS" in the subject field.
Please help keep these working items out of the landfill.
