Greetings!
Happy new year. We'll spare you the recaps, the predictions, the wistful remembrances. We just want to thank you for your continued support and entice you to come in for another visit soon.
On the gratitude front: news of your Book Pals donation, an update on our Give a Kid Some Credit program, and a coupon to thank you.
To entice you: discounted calendars, a sale store update, a select few new book arrivals, a fun book event, and that (multi-purpose, I guess) coupon.
Oh, and for the curious, our 2007 bestseller list.
Thanks for reading and for all your support. We hope to see you soon.

Hundreds of books donated
The generosity of our customers never ceases to amaze us, and it's doubly true this year. As always, you donated children's book to Book Pals, a program that reads (and gives books) to children in shelters. But you also supported our 40th anniversary program: Give A Kid Some Credit, through which we plan to give $10 worth of books to every 3rd grader in the city's public schools over the course of this school year. To BookPals, you donated 68 books, and we're giving our gross profit from those sales to the program, too. That's another $200 to support their efforts. For more info, or to volunteer to read through Book Pals, click here. To our Give a Kid Some Credit program, you have so far donated over $3,000 in used book trade (cash donations bought double the amount in trade). We've given the credits to ten schools so far, and we have 67 more schools to get to by the end of the school year. The kids who have redeemed the credits have been most grateful (and most cute).

New Book Arrivals
Is your New Year's resolution to read more books? Well, that is a worthy goal, and we at Green Apple would like to encourage you right off the bat. To do so, we have picked out a handful of interesting titles that have arrived on our display tables in the last few weeks, including a travelogue from Julio Cortazar, a book of short nature narratives, an atheist manifesto now in paperback, the story behind Gray's Anatomy (the book, people, get your mind out of the TV gutter!), a funny armchair-travel gem (see event below), and some smut (get your mind back into the gutter). Here they are, this month's featured new release books. |
Author Event: Smile When You're Lying: Confessions of a Rogue Travel Writer
Travel writer Chuck Thompson has written or edited over 2,000 travel stories. Now he can finally tell the truth about his trips to 35 countries. If you're at all tempted, read this review from the Chronicle, then join us at the Edinburgh Castle, the city's literary pub on Saturday, January 19, at 7:30 p.m. to meet the author, hear some not-so-tall tales, and raise a glass to the (funny) written word. |
Warehouse Clearance Store update
We still have about 20,000 unseen books to put out at our warehouse clearance sale just two blocks from the main store. So we're pulling every older book and stocking hundreds of fresh titles each day, all for at least 50% off the already low used price. Even if you've been in before, the books are all different now, so have another look.
248 Clement Street at 4th Avenue. 387-2157. 10 to 10 daily.
