Greetings!

"Effectiveness without values is a tool without a purpose."

~ Edward de Bono

As we begin the new year, I thought I'd share the step by step goal achievement process I often teach in my classes.  Since many people take on new goals at the beginning of the year, I thought you might find this useful and supportive in your personal quest.

Step #1:  Clarify Your Core Values

Before you jump into accomplishing goals, I believe it is important to look at why it matters to you.  The foundation for that lies in looking at your core values.  One of the best ways I know to do that is to look at the things you truly love to do, and also to look at the things you've done that weren't in your best interest.

The reason for this is that we will always do things that are in alignment with what we hold as most important.  Ideally we choose strategies that serve us.  Unfortunately, we sometimes choose strategies that don't make a lot of sense at first glance because they don't appear to get us what we want.  But, those so-called negative behaviors can give us good information about what is most important to us so we can make a better game plan - one that meets our needs and gets the results we want.

To do this, you can follow this five step process:
  1. List 20 things you love to do
  2. Identify 5 things you've done that created stress for yourself and/or those you care about
  3. Determine what values were met with each of these activities (you may want to ask others for input on this part)
  4. Rank the values you identified in order of importance to you
  5. Note your top five values

Next week we'll look at another piece of why you choose to do what you do.  In the meantime, give some thought to the different strategies you can use in your business and personal life to be living your values in a way that serves you and those around you.

Wishing you many fulfilling activities to enrich all of your days -
