Greetings!
"If you want to know your past, look at your present conditions.
If you want to know your future, look into your present actions."
~ Buddhist saying
I'm hearing a lot of people these days talking about not being very happy with the results they are getting. The typical comment that follows is something about the state of the economy and/or how hard things are.
While it is certainly true that the overall state of the economy is not as strong as it once was, it is also true that some people are getting great results in the current economy. Why? Because they have adapted to what is (aka - "the new normal"), rather than bemoaning what was. And, instead of sitting around talking about how bad things are they are taking actions that lead to the results they want to achieve.
How about you? Think about the conversations you've had this past week. Have they been focused on specific actions you can take to get great results? Or, have they been focused on bemoaning external factors that you can't control for the lack of results you've been getting? What kind of meetings are you attending? Are they focused on a "down" economy? Or, are they focused on adapting to change? One message helps keep you stuck, the other helps you keep moving forward.
In addition to talking about your actions and putting yourself in environments that support forward movement, have you been following through and doing the activities that will lead to great results?
I invite you to pay attention to your speaking, your actions and the company you're keeping this week. If you find yourself bemoaning the state of the economy or something similar, you may want to use a focus question like, "What action can I take, right now, to help me create the results I desire?" This kind of question can get you back in motion, as long as you follow through on the action piece. And, if you find yourself with others who are bemoaning the state of affairs, politely excuse yourself and connect with others who are talking about making connections, creating what they want and moving forward.
In my work with clients, one of the most significant factors that has helped many people improve their results is to stop hanging out with people who complain and start spending time with people who are on a more positive wave. As the old saying goes, "We become like the people we associate with."
Wishing you a bright future based on your present actions -
