Local Company Offers Organizing and Cleaning Tips and Advice

Spring is here, which means that the time for spring cleaning is kicking into gear. It's time to open up the windows, let that fresh air in and clean out the clutter. Gator Cleaning Solutions is providing the Tampa Bay Area with organizing and cleaning tips to help motivate that spring cleaning.

Spring cleaning is a tradition that allows us to freshen up our homes while improving our health and our moods!

1. Have a plan

* Survey each room and list out what needs to be done.

Don't forget junk drawers, medicine cabinets and closets.

2. Get the whole family involved

* Create a chore chart from the above surveyed list. Then, let family members to take turns choosing what tasks they will take on.

3. Gather Supplies

* Place cleaning supplies in a bucket, this way the bucket can be carried from room to room.

* Supplies should include:

Sponges
Cleaning cloths or rags
All-purpose cleaners
Duster
Vacuum
Mop
Step Ladder
Etc.

4. Get Started!

Kitchen

A cluttered pantry, a dusty refrigerator top, and splatters on the stove top and oven are just the highlights of a messy kitchen.

1. Remove the clutter. Clear the counters of any dirty dishes, mail or toys.

2. Clean from top to bottom. Dust the ceiling, tops of the cabinets, the refrigerator, etc.

3. Apply oven cleaner to the oven and clean out the refrigerator. While the oven cleaner works, clean out expired foods from refrigerator and wipe down shelves and drawers.

4. Clean the kitchen sink. Scrub all the walls of the sink. Place a lemon peel in the garbage disposal for a fresh sent.

5. Wipe down the counter tops, stove top and small appliances with cleaning wipes.

6. Reorganize cabinets and drawers. Throw away old Tupperware, restack pots and pans, wipe down the inside of cabinets.

7. Clear out and reorganize pantry. Throw away expired cans and jars. Organize pantry by place like products together; for example, place baking items together, pasta and sauces together, etc.

8. Sweep and mop the floors. Use a mixture of vinegar and water to clean floors.

Bathroom

The mirror is spotty, the medicine cabinet is overflowing, the grout is discolored and the tub is dingy. This is not the spa sanctuary you had envisioned for your bathroom.

1. Remove the clutter. Empty the trash and remove the laundry.

2. Clean from top to bottom. Dust the ceiling, tops of the cabinets, vents and fans, etc.

3. Scrub the shower and tub. Use all-purpose cleaners (natural or commercial) to wipe away soap scum and clean the tile grout. Wipe down facets and shower and shower head. If shower head is clogged, use a lime cleanser to remove build-up.

4. Scrub toilet. Add powdered, liquid, or gel cleanser to the bowl. Apply the cleaner as close to the toilet rim as possible. While the cleansing solution soaks into the toilet grime in the bowl, clean the outside of the toilet. Wipe down the handle, lid and edges.

5. Clean sink, fixtures, counter tops, door knobs, switch plates, etc.

6. Clear out and reorganize the medicine cabinet. Throw away expired medication and reorganize by placing like items together; for example, place all bandages together, prescriptions together, cold & sinus medications together, etc.

7. Vacuum or shake out bathroom rugs.

8. Sweep and mop the floors and scrub the grout. Combine baking soda and water to make a paste. Using a toothbrush, apply the paste to the grout and scrub vigorously. Wipe off any excess paste with a damp cloth.

Living Room

1. Remove the clutter. Put away shoes, toys, etc.

2. Clean from top to bottom. Dust the ceiling, photographs or paintings, vents and fans, etc.

3. Clean draperies, curtains and blinds. Clean them according to the manufacturer's directions.

4. Wipe down windows and window frames.

5. Dust furniture, coffee table and end tables, lamps, bookshelves, entertainment center, etc. When cleaning electronics, be sure to use Electrostatic cloths or Microfiber cloths. Some furniture like couches, chairs and lamps are easily cleaned with vacuum attachments.

6. Wipe down doors, doorknobs and any other high touch points.

7. Clean carpets, rugs and floors. Vacuum up dust and dirt in corners and underneath furniture.  For carpets and rugs, use a spot treatment to remove stains. For hardwood floors, use a neutral cleanser as to not damage the wood with hard chemicals. For tile floors, sweep and mop the floors and scrub the grout. Combine baking soda and water to make a paste. Using a toothbrush, apply the paste to the grout and scrub vigorously. Wipe off any excess paste with a damp cloth.

Green Clean Tip of the Month
Leaf One
Furniture Polish!

In this installment of our Green Clean Tip, we are going to introduce you to a couple of do-it-yourself furniture polishes that you can use during your spring cleaning! The first polish will ensure your wood furniture shines like new, while providing a faint lemon aroma. The second polish can be used as a quick polish to aid in covering minor surface imperfections.

One very effective wood polish sounds like it could also be a pretty good salad dressing. Mix 2 parts olive oil with 1 part lemon juice and apply it to your furniture using a soft cloth. The combination gives your wood furniture that glossy look like it is brand new, and provides a fresh scent at the same time.

Who hasn't had the misfortune of having a hot serving dish or glass of water mar the surface of a wood table? This simple paste recipe can quickly remove any marks! Just use a little salad oil or lemon oil and salt. Combine the ingredients into a thin paste and apply to the surface. Once applied, lightly buff the area as you wipe it off with a soft cloth. Voila, the surface should be noticeably improved!

As with all our green tips, the best part of the above two is simply that they are simple household ingredients you use on a daily basis, so you know they are not filled with harmful chemicals and harsh ingredients that could be unsafe, especially for children. We hope you find the above tip useful, let us know if you try one, we love to hear success stories!
