Someone You Should Know

Ben Hurwitz, CPA

Doing the right thing is important for WB member Ben Hurwitz.  In fact, "it's huge for me," he admitted. He is the one people go to when they need someone to listen, sort things out, or take on an additional task. This summer, Ben will be the facilitator at the CPAGold training session for staff.
Ben's helpfulness is part of his life inside and outside of work. For the past four years, he has been the president of his synagogue and will step down from that position on June 30.

Making sure his values are reflected in the way he spends his time creates  a busy life.  It has advantages, but not what people expect.

Ben jokes that, while others have found volunteer work  a way to network for business, his congregation "has too many accountants" to offer much in the way of business opportunities. Instead, his activities have resulted in something much broader.

Ben said he has gotten more involved with making presentations at the firm and more comfortable speaking to crowds of 1,000 people on non-business topics.

Through his volunteer work, Ben said he has rediscovered that meetings are a good place for people to express their ideas.

"I found that  people do listen to others and they can effectively influence other people-- people who come from all different walks of life. They just have to have an  open mind."

Listening to others and offering support are important values in Ben's  life.

The results touch the people  he volunteers with and places he volunteers for.

And, those values make a difference with the colleagues Ben works with and clients he serves.
