August Presentation Meeting Date - August 23, 2012
This promises to be a decade of traumatic change for medical offices. 91,000 physicians shy of what we need. Employers dropping health insurance. Value care over care volume. Smart phone physician visits. The new office Community Health Worker. Virtual specialist visits. Pod physicians at the mall. Community health report cards. Patient risk stratification. Hotspotting. Ambulatory Intensive Caring Units. Ken Peach, Executive Director, Health Council of East Central Florida, will help us explore and prepare for the not-too-distant future when he presents Three Key Fundamental Changes to the Practice of Medicine at our next meeting on August 23. Be prepared to hear (and share) ideas on how to position your practice to thrive in a new future.

Improving Your Practice Bottom Line by Turning your Website into a Cash Machine Other businesses take payments on invoices on their web sites so why not you, Doc? The technology has long been accepted for everything from utilities to rent. Even churches allow their parishioners to tithe on their websites. It's probably time for you to make it easier for your patients to settle up their outstanding debt to you in this manner. Turn that beautiful website that is chock full of information about directions to your office and FAQ on the most popular diseases into an ATM for your practice.

Do-it-yourself medical devices can cut down hospital trips
Medical device startups are developing techs that put the power in patients' hands, a development that could cut down on costly hospital visits, so long as users don't develop a false sense of security, experts say. The Wall Street Journal highlights three such start-ups, including Oklahoma's Orthocare Innovations, which makes prosthetics that can be adjusted with a smartphone app, allowing patients to skip trips to the doctor just to tweak their artificial limbs.

91% of docs want mobile-enabled EHRs
Most doctors are interested in using their mobile devices to access their electronic health records, even though they're not currently doing so, according to a new study published by Vitera Health Solutions.
While almost all physicians (93 percent) already are using their iPhones and other devices for work, only 6 percent are using them to connect to their EHRs or to e-prescribe, using them instead for email and texting.

Jokes of the Month
A man is recovering from surgery when the Surgical Nurse appears and asks him how he is feeling. "I'm O.K. but I didn't like the four letter word the doctor was using during the surgery," he answered. "What did he say, asked the nurse. "Oops!" answered the man. __________________________________________________________
