The new voice of SkyView.
Who is the new voice of SkyView?

With the 3.3 firmware upgrade for SkyView we had to choose the voice for SkyView warning and messages.  We tested both live and synthesized and the synthesized won. Mostly we were listening for clarity in a noisy environment, and the final choice was for a female voice, not too high or low in pitch. (There is one thing she couldn't enunciate well... the SkyView name itself. So that is spoken by her male friend.)    Here is a sample of the SkyView voice.

We don't have a name for her. No, not Siri. Any suggestions?

SkyView Hands-On Training Class
Sun-n-Fun Classes

A reminder; we still have space at the Sun-n-Fun SkyView Hands-On classes.

Classes will be held in the Hilton Garden Inn hotel adjacent to the airport.  The air-conditioned hotel conference room offer comfortable seating and a classroom-like environment with a full audio/visual presentation.  Classes are structured with limited seating to assure no more than 2 students at each SkyView display.

To cover the cost of conference room space at these events, the classes are being offered at $30 per person.  Advance ticket purchase is required through "Brown Bag Tickets", an on-line event ticketing service.

Product News for March 2012
SkyView Version 3.3 Released

The new version 3.3 SkyView firmware includes:
  • Alerting and Audio System. Audio voice alerts for system messages, traffic, and engine warnings.  And a varying audio tone for Angle of Attack. We chose a clear female voice for the voice alerting; we think you'll like her.  Listen to the SkyView voice. (Instructions for connecting the audio are in the SkyView Installation Guide, page 4-16.)
  • User Waypoints. A straight-forward, powerful interface for entering and managing user waypoints. Includes labeling with common airport and other graphic symbols, and the ability to easily import and export user waypoints.
  • Altitude Alerting. Allows the pilot to set altitude alert points above and below the chosen altitude bug.
  • Airspeed Zero Adjust. Allows calibration at zero airspeed.
  • Map Enhancements. Added visual reporting point and information menu improvements.
  • Rotax 912 Engine Monitor. New Rotax 912 engine setup dynamically adjusts the oil temperature and tachometer gauges to reflect limitations specified by Rotax.
New Network Hub Hardware

SV-NET-HUB
The new SV-NET-HUB allows multiple SkyView connections to be made easier and cleaner, without the use of the Network Splitter.

The SV-NET-HUB consists of five D9 ports connected in parallel on an enclosed base. It can be used anywhere in the plane, but most often will be mounted in the avionics bay.

The SV-NET-HUB will in most cases replace the use of the SV-NET-SPL Splitter. The only use for which the Splitter is better suited is for connecting two ADAHRS, where one network cable can be easily split into two connectors, one for each ADAHRS.

The SV-NET-HUB list price is $50.  It can be ordered starting March 5, 2012.

PLEASE NOTE: The SV-NET-SPL Splitter price has changed to $65.
New SkyView Video

We have a new SkyView information video, "Managing Databases, Firmware, and Configuration Files."

This will be the first of a new series of How To videos from The Dynon Channel.

You can find all of the SkyView videos on our Website at:

Tech Support Tips - Installation Guides
The Importance of Keeping Firmware Current
Your Dynon development team works hard to keep improving your avionics with new features and fixes. Even if you don't think you need a particular feature, we suggest you keep your firmware up-to-date to ensure your Dynon product works at optimum performance.

Sometimes new firmware adds a major new feature. For example, the D10/D100/D180 products had a major, and free, addition of the Autopilot starting in firmware v5.0, with onging AP enhancements in later versions. The new SkyView 3.3 adds the often requested audio warnings and messages.

Many times new firmware includes changes that aren't exactly features, but changes important enough to merit an update. An example was D10/D100/D180 v5.4.0 which included a fix for  "EFIS start-up in extreme cold temperatures."

Updating D10/D100/D180 firmware requires a USB-to-Serial-Port Adapter.  Because SkyView is a younger product, firmware updates come more often (typically, 3x/year) and are made through a USB memory stick.

To check which version of firmware is in your D10/D100/D180 product, select SETUP > VRSION. To check firmware version in SkyView, select SETUP > LOCAL DISPLAY SETUP > DISPLAY HARDWARE INFORMATION.

The most recent firmware for your Dynon instrument can always be downloaded from Dynon's website, under the Support link at the top of the page.

Thanks!
