So why are Dynon products less expensive? |
We often receive the question, "Why are Dynon products so much less expensive than competitors?"
First and foremost, we believe that new technology isn't useful if most pilots can't afford it. Our founder is a serial entrepreneur who started a semiconductor company in the 90's, and we understand the benefits of scale. Right from the beginning of Dynon, in 2000, we decided that it would be better to sell lots of products at lower margin than a few products at high margin.
Dynon puts a lot of effort into designing products for manufacturability. When you sell thousands of a product, rather than tens, you get to design-in top quality using custom parts, and then demand the best prices possible from vendors.
On the marketing side, Dynon has a policy of keeping the price the lowest possible for everyone, and so does not offer show specials or discounts. We feel that every homebuilt and LSA plane out there is "show quality", and so we don't give away free products to sponsor or influence anyone. (We are proud of the fact that even Scaled Composites bought their EFIS-D10 that flew on SpaceShip One.)
And finally, we are pretty cheap with our dealer discount. It doesn't always make us the most popular with our dealers, but everyone benefits by having the lowest price possible for all pilots.
So despite the old saying, you don't "always get what you pay for."
With Dynon you get more.

SkyView Hands-On Training Class
|
Sun-n-Fun and Oshkosh Classes
Pilots frequently ask us for hands-on courses for SkyView. At the Sebring show in January we ran a trial which was a big win; the classes were full, and people walked away knowing much more about flying with glass panels and SkyView.
As a result of customers' feedback, we plan to offer these classes again at both Sun-N-Fun and Airventure in 2012. At each event, classes will be held in the Hilton Garden Inn hotel adjacent to the airports. The hotel conference room locations offer air-conditioned spaces with comfortable seating and a classroom-like environment with a full audio/visual presentation. Classes are structured with limited seating to assure no more than 2 students at each SkyView display.
To cover the cost of conference room space at these events, the classes are being offered at $30 per person. Advance ticket purchase is required through "Brown Bag Tickets", an on-line event ticketing service.
Tickets are available now for the Sun-N-Fun classes. Tickets for AirVenture 2012 will become available in several weeks when the class times and dates have been confirmed.

SkyView COM Radio Update
We are working on a Com radio for the SkyView system consisting of a transceiver box, a control head, and software integrated into the SkyView display. The RF portion of the radio is being created by a partner, and we do not yet have a firm delivery date. Still, we do want to give you an update on what we do know.
* First, about the date, we really don't know it right now. When we do know we will give you at least three months lead time, with specs and mechanical requirements, before the radio is available.
* The control head, which includes a display, volume knob, and frequency knob, is about 1.8" wide and 3.6" tall. Imagine a business card turned vertical and you've got the idea.
* Frequency data from the SkyView map and database is transferred to the radio.
* The radio will have 8.33 KHz channel spacing for Europe.
* The control head can operate the radio even with the SkyView display turned off.
* The transceiver box is similar in size and shape to our transponder.
We'll let you know more as soon as we can. |
Tech Support Tips - Installation Guides
|
The Good News... SkyView has frequent updates. The Bad News... SkyView has frequent updates!
It's important to keep your Installation Guide current. Each revision incorporates not just the new features in a firmware update, but also bug-fix information and provides improved explanations based on customer feedback. A hardcopy guide is included with each main instrument, and the most up-to-date electronic version is always available on Dynon's website.
Keeping your installation manual current: We are proud, and work hard, to update Installation and Pilot User Guides at the same time as new software is released; it is part of the support you expect from Dynon. Every time a manual is updated it is completely re-examined for ways to make it better, more detailed, clearer and more user-friendly.
We admit, our Installation Guide is large. One suggestion is to print it section by section as you work on that part of the installation. That way you have the most current version for the section you are working one, and you don't have to print the entire manual every time.
Once your plane is built, it also helps to have a copy of the Guide in the hangar. We love it when you have the Guide nearby, if you call for help from your airplane.
Thanks! Mike and Steve Dynon Tech Support
