Host Families Needed

School year 2012-2013

If you are interested in hosting an international student for the 2012-13 school year, please contact Paul Ravina in the Holy Name Guidance Office before the end of school in June. The guidance phone number is 508-753-3813. Hosting a student from another country can be a very rewarding experience. It can enrich and broaden the outlook of your own sons and daughters. Most of our international students come from China and South Korea, with a few from other countries. Medical insurance is provided, along with a stipend to offset the costs involved. Please consider hosting a student.

The Nacel International Program at Holy Name Jr/Sr High School is in need of host homes for students arriving in August 2012. They attend local Catholic Schools on F1 visas, to obtain a diploma and go on to college here in the US as well. The Nacel program is fully accredited and welcomes all types of families to apply. Students' families pay all the school related expenses. Students have insurance and spending money. Hosts provide a room with a desk, meals, some transportation and moral support and in return receive a generous monthly stipend. Please consider helping and contact Lyn Gordon with Nacel for information 508 892 8027 or studentprograms@hotmail.com. All inquiries will be replied to. Thank you - please check out our website as well:

www.nacelopendoor.org/ipsp

Nacel also has two students arriving from Mexico who will attend Holy Name in the fall.  One is a boy and one is a girl.  These wonderful young people offer so much to any host family willing to take them in as a member of their family.  Please call Lyn Gordon at the number shown above if you are able to help out these two new students.  Both are soccer players and hope to participate in the soccer program at Holy Name.

T.E.S.S. The Exchange Students Service would like to meet families that would be interested in hosting an international student who will attend Holy Name High School. It is a great opportunity for your child to meet and live with a teenager from another culture and perhaps offset their tuition expenses. Each family will receive a generous, income tax-free monthly stipend.

If you are interested in discussing this opportunity, please call or email us. Ask for Ron Reisler. Prior experience as a host family is not necessary. We will conduct an in-person interview and all hosts must submit to a CORI questionnaire.

To all in the Holy Name Family:

We both hope this edition of the Nap News finds you and your family well and enjoying this wonderful summer!  It is our hope and prayer for you that your summer be a time of fun, rest, and relaxation with your family and friends.

We have been busy at school working to prepare for the next school year.  We have been working on student and teacher schedules for next year.  On July 17th all student schedules as well as textbook ordering instructions from Mrs. Breeden in the bookstore have been sent out.  We were very successful in obtaining student first choices regarding elective courses so we are expecting a very limited  need for any schedule changes at this point.

We have also been very busy interviewing  potential new students and trying to meet the financial aid need of many.  We thank God for his continued blessing on our school as we continue to receive a great deal of interest in Holy Name as the work and reputation of our excellent students, faculty, parents,  and alumni continue to spread throughout our larger community.  We ask God to continue to Bless Holy Name has he  has for so many years.

We have also been reviewing candidates for the very difficult replacement for Mrs. Maurello.  As we all ended the year thanking and celebrating Mrs. Maurello for all she has done for our school and Catholic education in general, when summer arrived our focus quickly turned to filling such large shoes.  We are very pleased to be able to announce that Mrs. Anne Kennedy, Holy Name class of  1985, has been appointed to the position of Assistant Principal at Holy Name.  Below you will find a letter from Mrs. Kennedy, but we are sure most of you know her as a family woman of great faith and an excellent social studies teacher at Holy Name for the last 7 years.  Mrs. Kennedy brings to our team an unparalleled love for her school, a great deal of excitement and energy, and an excellent academic background from Holy Cross and Georgetown Law School.  We both are so happy that God has once again blessed Holy Name with such a wonderful person and educator to join our administrative team.

We are also pleased to be able to announce that Ms. Amy Underwood has been appointed to the position of Junior High and International Student Counselor.  We are so excited that Ms. Underwood has decided to expand her role in guidance to provide counseling services to the International Students as well as the Junior High Students.  Ms. Underwood is also a graduate of Holy Name as a member of the class of 1995.  Ms. Underwood holds both a Bachelor's and Master's Degree from Assumption College. She brings to this position a great deal of  experience, education, and guidance certification.  We all welcome Ms. Underwood to this new role and know she will be a tremendous support and be a tireless advocate for the students she will serve.

May you all continue to have a wonderful  and safe summer.  As a reminder we are in the office on Mondays-Thursdays from 8 to 2 each week.  Please feel free to give us a call if we can be of help in any way.

God Bless You and Yours,

Mr. Reynolds, Head Master

Dr. Audette , Principal

DRESS CODE AND UNIFORMS 2012-2013

Changes

1. Pants

Both Boys and Girls pants (khaki, navy, black, and grey) may be purchased directly from retail stores, such as: Macy's, Sears, Lands End, Old Navy, and J.C. Penny

Both boys and girls pants must be Dockers-style, which means no cargo pants, painter pants, stretch pants, skinny pants, low-riders, pants with rivets, or Capri pants. Pants should fit comfortably and mirror the uniform pants currently worn by Holy Name students. Pants always need to be belted.

2. Shorts (khaki)

Both boys and girls have the option of wearing uniform shorts which may be purchased only from J.B. Edwards Uniform Co. These shorts must be worn with shoes and socks. The shorts may be worn only during the warmer months of September, May, and June.
We have also made the sweaters optional as some students find it too warm to wear a sweater. We certainly encourage the wearing of the v-neck sweater during the cold months. No other sweater or item may be worn over the uniform shirt.

3. Skirts

Girls skirts, purchased from J.B. Edwards Uniform Co., come in two new styles: an A-line skirt in khaki or navy and a wide-pleated plaid skirt. Skirts bought in previous years may still be worn.

4. Senior sweaters

Seniors only may purchase from J.B. Edwards a cardigan sweater in black or white or a pullover jacket-style top in Columbia blue.

Holy Name Polo shirts and Holy Name V-neck sweaters must still be purchased at J.B Edwards Uniform Co. These items are essential components of the Holy Name uniform.

J.B. Edwards has relocated to 65 Southbridge Street, Auburn, MA 01501 (508 792-2071) or visit them on the web at: http://www.jbedwarduniforms.com/jbedward/

Letter From Mrs. Kennedy, Assistant Principal

It is with great pleasure that I become a member of the administrative team here at Holy Name. I attended Holy Name and am a graduate of the class of 1985. I have also had the privilege of teaching at this school for seven years. Although I will greatly miss the classroom and "Homeroom 307B," I look forward to working with the experienced faculty and wonderful students and their families to ensure that every student has a faith-based, safe and nurturing learning experience at

Holy Name.   It is going to be an exciting school year!
