T.E.S.S. The Exchange Students Service would like to meet families that would be interested in hosting an international student who will attend Holy Name High School. It is a great opportunity for your child to meet and live with a teenager from another culture and perhaps offset their tuition expenses. Each family will receive a generous, income tax-free monthly stipend.
If you are interested in discussing this opportunity, please call or email us. Ask for Ron Reisler. Prior experience as a host family is not necessary. We will conduct an in-person interview and all hosts must submit to a CORI questionnaire.

Julia Simone: Silver Medalist In Scholastic Art and Writing Regional Division Sophomore, Julia Simone, second year webmaster of the Creative Writing Competition Club, has garnered the coveted Silver Key in The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards competition. Now Julia can boast being in the "spiritual" company of other notable past winners such as Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, Richard Avedon, Robert Redford and Joyce Carol Oates. Scholastic sponsors one of the oldest and most esteemed writing contests dating back to 1923. Its purpose is to encourage and celebrate the creativity of America's middle and high school age students providing them twenty-eight categories of art and writing for the chance to earn scholarships and have their works exhibited or published. Every entry in the Scholastic Arts and Writing competition is judged by notable professionals in the visual and literary arts. Some of the judges have actually been award winners when they attended middle or high school. The general scoring rubric used to evaluate entries is evidence of originality, technical skill and the emergence of a personal voice or vision. On the Scholastic website it notes that to date, the competition has challenged over thirteen million students and recognized more than nine million young artists and writers and boasts that it is the longest-running, most prestigious contest for creative teens in the U.S.* Commenting on this year's competition in letters sent out to participating schools the Program Directors noted that the scoring was intense and the award decisions were difficult for the judges. So bravo to Julia who received an invitational letter to celebrate her Silver Key accomplishment and to join with other recipients of the Silver Key at the 2012 Awards Day held in Boston. This event was duly noted by the Boston Globe. Julia also received a letter of congratulations from Superintendent Delma L. Josephson. Holy Name is proud to count sophomore, Julia Simone, among its membership.
