New Staff Joins the Holy Name Family!

This fall the Holy Name community is very fortunate to be blessed by God with the addition of several new members of our faculty who come to us with excellent experience, a strong connection to their Catholic faith, and years of dedicated work with young people in a variety of settings.

Aimee Lee, HN class of 1998, joins our Physical Education Department and is also the new varsity field hockey coach.  Aimee comes to Holy Name from Anna Maria College where she has worked in the athletic department as Assistant Athletic Director, coach, advisor, and as coordinator of mission work within the school.

Gerry Padilla, Holy Name class of 1986,  joins Holy Name in our foreign language department teaching all levels of Spanish.  Gerry is a native Spanish speaker who comes to Holy Name with years of working with student athletes at all levels within the sport of soccer. Although new to teaching, Gerry has a strong passion to work with young people as part of the Holy Name family.  Gerry continues to be our boys' varsity soccer coach.

Stephen Thompson joins our music department as our new Choral Instructor.  Stephen comes to Holy Name with an incredible resume of musical accomplishments.  Stephen is a true choral expert and brings an incredible level energy that, along with that of Nancy Ackerman, will continue to invigorate and expand the fine music program we have at Holy Name.

We thank God for being blessed with these wonderful additions to our Holy Name family.

Holy Name Hosts NEASC Accreditation Team!

During the period of October 3-5, Holy Name hosted a group of nine outstanding educational professionals from various private schools throughout New England as representatives of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges as part of our reaccreditation process. This visit is a culmination of well over a year of intense self-study at Holy Name.

Upon exiting the school, the Chairman of the accrediting team commended the school for its outstanding students,  faculty, and overall community commitment to our mission of living and preaching the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ within our Catholic Faith. Although the final report from the accrediting committee will not come until later in the fall, the Chair and Assistant Chair of the visiting committee made very clear their enthusiastic endorsement of the academic experience at Holy Name.

None of this would be possible without our incredible students, faculty and staff, administration, parents, alumni and friends of the Holy Name community.  Special thanks go to faculty members Brett Penza and Pat Peters who co-chaired the evaluation steering committee that published the self-study document which forms the basis for the visiting committee's work within our school. Thank you all for your support and help and may God continue to bless this great school of Holy Name.
Holy Name AP Scores Show Excellence!
AP Course Logo

Seventy-four Holy Name students took one hundred and twenty-nine advanced placement course exams last year. This significant number of students shows the commitment that both our students and faculty have towards academic excellence and achievement of work at the college level.

Seventy-six percent of those students taking the exams scored a three or above indicating successful completion of the high academic standard of an advanced placement course.  Of the seventy-four students, fifteen of them, or twenty percent, rank as an AP Scholar because of their excellent performance on three or more exams. We thank all our faculty and students for their excellent effort and performance on preparing for, and taking, these exams.  We look for continued excellent performance in our AP courses this year as well.
Fall Sports Teams In Full Gear!

The week of August 22nd saw all fall sports teams begin tryouts and practices for their upcoming seasons.  Athletic Director, Jim Manzello, reports that "all coaches found excited, committed, and energized student athletes arrive for the beginning of what we all pray will be wonderful, fun, and rewarding seasons of competition."  Check the Holy Name web site for continued updates on fall sports schedules.

 Athletic Schedules

On October 12th, one hundred and thirty-five juniors and one hundred and twenty-five sophomores took the PSAT at Holy Name!

Coordinated by Susan Ivas and Peggy Kohn, of our guidance department, all sophomores and juniors took the PSAT at Holy Name on Wednesday, October 12th. This test is administered to sophomores so they can be better prepared for the official PSAT administration in their junior year and for the eventual administration of the SAT test in their junior and senior years.  The PSAT is important not only as a way to prepare for the SAT, but also as a way to qualify as a National Merit Scholar and for other scholarship opportunities based on PSAT performance.

We thank Mrs. Ivas and Mrs. Kohn for their excellent administration of this test as well as all of the Holy Name teachers who work so hard each and every day to prepare all of our students to excel on these national assessments. We also must thank all of our students who worked so hard on these very difficult tests!  If you have any questions about the PSATs or SATs please feel free to contact your son or daughter's guidance counselor.
