New Music Director Replaces Mr. Burke
Long-time Music Director Joseph Burke Inspires New Leader!
Ms. Nancy Ackerman has been a favorite teacher of many of Holy Name's students and has been a terrific asset and help to former music director, Joseph Burke. Recently it was made official that Ms. Ackerman has been hired as the new Music Director at Holy Name. In regard to replacing the amazing Mr. Burke, Ms. Ackerman said that "after working closely with Mr. Joseph Burke these last three years in the Music Department of Holy Name, it was clear that he wished for each of the students to have the opportunity to experience a high quality music program. His encouragement and drive for excellence helped students to have confidence to believe in their own abilities as musicians and as individuals who would soon be going out into the world to make a difference. He worked hard and expected the same from each of them. These core values and traditions are essential for a music program and one that I hope to continue as Director of Music."
This year Ms. Ackerman said her goals for the music department are "to take on the present traditions that have worked so well and continue to grow the program. I would like to see more students experience the opportunities that exist in our music department, and help each student to realize his or her potential both as individual musicians and as members of the chorus or band. I'd also like to give our music program more exposure within the greater Worcester area as we travel to other cities and towns."
All of the members of the administrative team could not be happier that Nancy Ackerman has assumed this very important instructional and leadership role at our school. As Mr. Reynolds said on behalf of the administrative team, "We have the utmost confidence in Nancy and know that her work, like that of Joe Burke, will be led by the Holy Spirit and will continue the wonderful music experience that is provided to all Holy Name student musicians." |

Principal, Dr. Audette, to be "arrested" to benefit the Worcester County Muscular Dystrophy Association!
Please Help Bail Me Out! On August 24th Dr. Audette will be "arrested" and taken to "MDA's Maximum Appreciation Jail." "What I need is your help by donating to the Muscular Dystrophy Association to bail me out. I suppose they would also accept donations to keep me in jail if that worked for you as well!," said Dr. Audette. Muscular dystrophy is a disease that comes in a number of forms and impacts many. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, MD occurs worldwide, affecting all races. Its incidence varies, as some forms are more common than others. Its most common forms in children, Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophy, alone affect approximately 1 in every 3,500 to 5,000 boys, or between 400 and 600 live male births each year in the United States. Some types of MD are more prevalent in certain countries and regions of the world. Most muscular dystrophies are familial, meaning there is some family history of the disease.
Dr. Audette indicated that his father-in-law, Dr. Robert Rakowski, spent his life working to cure these terrible diseases by conducting research that has made important impacts in the search for a cure and effective treatment. "With my passion for helping children, I felt there was no better way to honor the work my father-in-law did in his life and help children and their families at the same time." Please consider donating to this worthy cause by helping Dr. Audette raise $1,600 to send two afflicted kids to MDA camp. Any donation you make would certainly be very appreciated and will go a long way to providing a wonderful experience for these kids who face so many other challenges in their lives. You may donate online at Dr. Audette's MDA secure website, https://www.joinmda.org/2011worcesterlockup/baudette , by coming into the school and giving donations directly to Dr. Audette, or by stopping by the "jail" on August 24th at Luciano's Cotton Club at Union Station. Dr. Audette will be "arrested" at Holy Name at approximately 2 pm and brought directly to "jail." Please help Dr. Audette help these kids and their families. Dr. Audette thanks the Holy Name community in advance for the help he knows he will receive from the Holy Name family! |

Our Mission
As we get ready to begin another school year, we feel it is important to restate our mission for our whole community. All of the members of the Holy Name community are responsible for ensuring that we live up to our mission each and every day in everything we do.
The mission of Holy Name Central Catholic Junior/Senior High School, as a part of the Roman Catholic Church in the Diocese of Worcester, Massachusetts, is to inspire our students to study and apply Gospel values and the moral principles of Jesus Christ to all of our academic, artistic, social and athletic programs. Students are provided a stimulating learning environment to encourage them to become life long learners. Each student is empowered to master the high academic and ethical standards necessary to achieve success and to be a Catholic Christian witness in the world. |
