WBENC NATIONAL CONFERENCE
 will be in Orlando, Florida
June 19-21, 2012

Attendees will have access to opportunities that connect WBENC-Certified WBEs, WBENC Corporate Members, Regional Partner Organization (RPO) leaders, RPO Corporate Members, government agency representatives and small business owners.

Our members know there is no better time to experience the best of WBENC!

I have attended the national WBENC convention for the last five years. The educational opportunities are very worthwhile, but the opportunity to meet so many extraordinary women business owners is amazing. I have been a mentor and been mentored through the connections that I have made over the years with both WBEs and corporate members. The women from my TUCK Executive Education class use the convention as a reunion so we can reconnect and catch up on each others success. I  look forward to spending time with them and the members of the Women's Business Council Southwest in  Orlando in June.

Registration is open.
SUMMIT & SALUTE RECAP

WBENC's Summit & Salute was held March 21st and 22nd at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront in Baltimore, Maryland. With over a thousand in attendance, WBENC did not disappoint. Holding workshops on the new Women Owned Small Business Federal Certification, Corporate and WBE Best Practice Sharing, there was much to learn. The highlight was the Salute held Thursday evening which recognized the Top Corporations and WBE Stars.

Top Corporations is the only national award honoring corporations for world class programs that level the playing field for women's business enterprises (WBEs) to compete for corporate business. This year WBENC recognized the following 29 corporations for developing and driving innovative best practices across their organizations that result in productive business partnerships with women entrepreneurs and valuable products and services for their customers.

WBCS is proud to report that 12 of the 29 Top Corporations listed above, are strong WBCS members! In fact, the three corporations who have received the Top Corporations recognition every year-13 years in a row-since it's inception, are WBCS members:

EFH, UPS and AT&T. Congratulations!

The "stars" were also shining at the Salute, 14 of them to be exact. These "stars" received the premier award for excellence among Women's Business Enterprises (WBEs). The 2012 WBENC Women's Business Enterprise Stars were selected by WBENC's 14 Regional Partner Organizations (RPOs) that administer WBENC's world-class certification of WBEs. These successful entrepreneurs, all certified WBEs, are leaders in their local business communities and respective fields and an inspiration to women business owners across the country.

The WBCS Star is Cathi Coan, president of Techway Services. She stepped into the spotlight to receive this prestigious award from WBCS president, Debbie Hurst.

The evening was a great celebration of incredible accomplishments.

Congratulations to all of the honorees.

WBCS NEWS

ISO Certification

It is with great pride that I announce that the Women's Business Council - Southwest has been awarded ISO 9001 Certification as a provider of WBENC certification and facilitating mutually beneficial procurement opportunities among WBEs, corporations, and public entities!  This prestigious certification demonstrates to the world that we are an organization dedicated to quality service delivery and continual improvement.  The ISO 9001 Quality Management System also helps us achieve the high standards we set for ourselves by providing a great process for effective monitoring, problem-solving, communication, and feedback throughout our organization.

Congratulations go to the staff, particularly Flo Cox and Anita Steele, who worked very diligently throughout 2011 toward this goal.  We also are greatly indebted to WBE member, BIZPHYX, who guided us through the process.  We could not have done this without their expert advice, guidance and hand-holding!

ALL ABOUT AUSTIN

The March Austin Council Connection luncheon at BookPeople on March 27th was the perfect opportunity for everyone to consider how leadership in business organizations is changing.

Local business woman, author and public speaker, Christina Randle, presented a program showing the growth curve of organizations and how imperative it is to prepare for the breakpoints, which is when leadership is most important.

As president of The Effective Edge, Christina shared her many years of business experience and knowledge with a diverse and interested group of business women.  She gave away copies of her book, "Getting It Together:  Gaining the Thriving Professional's Effective EDGE".

Our April 24th speaker will be Jana Owen with Freedom Personal Development.  Jana is going to help us discover our "Entrepreneurial DNA", how it impacts our business, and helps us realize our true work-life balance.

We meet from 11:30 a.m to 1:30 p.m at BookPeople on 6th & Lamar in Austin.

The invitation and registration information will be coming to you soon!
