businessWORKS! CORPORATE SHOWCASE
The businessWORKS! Corporate Showcase is a great way to help WBEs learn how to do business with your company. By hosting a table (or two) you get the chance to coach WBEs through your procurement process. Whether entering their information into a database, becoming familiar with your business model or just knowing who to contact to get their foot in the door, this is invaluable information for WBEs to know.

Here's how it works:

There will be five (5) rotations offered beginning at 2 p.m. Table hosts (from your company) will be positioned at their tables and the WBEs then select which company they would like to learn more about. During the first five minutes of the rotation you provide a synopsis of your engagement process. The remaining 15 minutes will be addressing questions and answers. After the 15 minutes, there is a 3 minute window for WBE's to find their next table, then the second rotation begins with a different audience of WBEs. Then the third, fourth and final rotation. Before you know it, time will have passed and you will have significantly contributed to helping WBEs take that next step in doing business with your company.

Here's what previous participants are saying about the value of hosting a table:

"The Corporate Showcase is a great format to interact with WBEs. It's a small enough group to allow for candid interaction with the table attendees and makes the best use of everyone's time. It's a great first step to see which path the WBE should take with the Sustaining Member - immediate opportunity, longer term, or not a fit."

David Robinson, Brinker International

Sr. Manager, Supplier Diversity and Inclusion

"One of the first steps a WBE should take to becoming a supplier is educating themselves about the companies they wish to do business with. The Corporate Showcase event gives us a chance to help educate WBE's on what our mission is, how they start the vetting process, how to navigate our supplier website, and gives them tips on some of the common mistakes made during the submission process. We find that the Corporate Showcase event improves the overall process for the WBE's, and gives them a competitive advantage."

Ardis Charbonneau,

Walmart Market Asset Protection Manager

Most Powerful Women Summit

FORTUNE Magazine

WOMEN, POWER, AND LEADERSHIP

Kicking off the General Session on Thursday, March 22nd, is Pattie Sellers, who has overseen the development of the Fortune annual event for women that has changed the way that both media and society recognizes women's corporate leadership.

After 15 years of studying the top women in business, and leadership in general, Sellers will share insights on how the most ambitious women succeed and fail, and what is needed to change failing outcomes into more successes. She will also address leadership styles as they pertain to the 18 women who lead Fortune 500 companies, and how successful women perceive and practice power in ways very different from men. In addition, Sellers looks at "where is the female Mark Zuckerberg?"

Leonard Greenhalgh,Ph.D.,

Professor of Management; Director, Programs for Minority and

Women-Owned Businesses; and Director, Native American Business Programs

Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth

THE ESSENTIAL ECONOMIC ROLE OF WOMEN'S BUSINESS ENTERPRISES

Thursday's luncheon keynote speaker is Leonard Greenhalgh, Ph.D. His innovative courses focus on the impact of minority and women-owned businesses as it pertains to supplier excellence and corporations' competitive advantage.

Discussing how women business owners are an essential component of U.S. economic success, Greenhalgh will speak to the unique abilities women possess in running businesses well, and why their success must be encouraged, nurtured, and celebrated. He also will address how the U.S. is encountering increasing competition from rival nations, and why it needs the economic contributions of all its businesses, especially from the entrepreneurial sector led by women.

True Sales  "More than a Wing and a Prayer"

When it comes to sales, many people "wing it," cross their fingers, and hope that they get the sale. During this interactive session, participants will learn a system that results in:

  • four predictable outcomes
  • duplicates success
  • qualifies prospects instead of having them disqualify you

By having a true sales system you can confidently manage the sales process and go from being an order-taker to a sales professional.

Join us as Tom Niesen of Acuity Training Systemsguides you through this sales process.

TERRITORY NEWS

We've been pretty busy outside of the DFW area the month of February and March!

EL PASO

Our Women, Wisdom & Wine event on February 23 had close to 30 in attendance. Aliana Apodaca, president of Positive Directions,  showed us how to put a little "salsa" in our lives. She shared her personal experiences and how they empowered her to be the best she can be. Everyone left with a little "salsa" in their step! Thank you to Trans-Expedite for sponsoring the event!

Nancy Readel, WBCS vice president and Rosa Santana, CEO of Integrated Human Capital, presented at the Dynamic Women to Women luncheon on March 1. The topic was Women's Business Enterprise (WBE) Certification and how it can help grow your business. Nancy gave an overview of the certification process and benefits, while Rosa, a certified WBE and member of the WBCS since 2007, shared what the WBE certification has done for her business. We would like to thank the El Paso Women's Business Border Center for inviting us to speak, and also being an invaluable partnering organization with us in El Paso.

We were also honored to be a part of the El Paso Bi-Annual Women's Conference March 2 - 3, held at Biggs Airfield, Fort Bliss. "Empower Yourself! Make it Happen!" was this year's theme. Aliana Apodaca was the morning keynote speaker. Having over 500 people in attendance, it was quite a change from her WBCS presentation on February 23rd. She had the crowd energized and ready to enjoy the conference!

TULSA

On March 7th, Katie Johnson, president of Upshaw Johnson Company, had luncheon attendees visiting the land of Oz as she spoke on embracing risk at the WBCS Tulsa Luncheon. She shared how companies need to learn to live with a strategic view of risk and find innovative ways to adapt to it. She walked us through the upside and downside of risk, as well as providing a few insights from Oz, clues to your personal risk appetite and sharing five steps for successfully embracing risk. Thank you to American Airlines for sponsoring the event!

March 8th we participated in the City of Tulsa's Building Resources in Developing and Growing Enterprises (BRIDGE) conference. Held at the Tulsa Civic Center, the day was filled with informational speakers, small business exhibitors and partnering organizations. We are proud to be a third party certifier for the City of Tulsa's BRIDGE Program.
