PRESIDENT'S LETTER
Debbie H. Picture

Happy New Year from the entire staff at WBCS! We are all looking forward to the year ahead and are fully focused on bringing great procurement, education, and networking opportunities to our members. As I'm sure is true for each of you, we are outlining our goals for 2012. Our entire purpose is to be a valuable resource in helping you grow your business. This is your Council and I hope that you will identify specific ways that you will utilize your membership this year to do just that - grow your business.

With over 80 Sustaining Corporate Members and 1,000 WBE members, there are many avenues for business connections through the WBCS. I challenge each of you to identify just one new way that you will utilize your membership this year to benefit your business. All of us at the Council are available to help you explore the opportunities.

We are kicking off the year, as we do every year, with our Parade of Stars Awards Gala. This year it will be held at the fabulous new Omni Hotel in Dallas on January 19th and promises to be a fun evening with over 500 corporate decision-makers and WBE executives in attendance. We will be recognizing the "best of the best" as we bestow awards on the Corporation and WBE of the Year, Advocate and Buyer of the Year, Rising Stars, and more. If you have attended in the past, you know what a great networking event this is. If you haven't attended, this might just be the "new thing" you do this year at the Council.

It's a hopeful time, a time for believing in all that we can accomplish, and a time for building and strengthening the relationships that will help us get there.

Here's to the prosperity we can achieve together!

ALL ABOUT AUSTIN
The Austin Council Connection will meet at Book People January 31st at 11:30 am.
This month Marny Lifshen will be the speaker.

"Promote the BEST You!"

In this engaging, interactive presentation, Marny will teach us how to build the the two key components of successful promotion in our careers: a strong personal brand and a diverse, powerful network.

She will help us to understand what personal brands are and how we can build one that helps us achieve our goals as business owners and executives.  She will cover the key elements of personal brands and give us specific steps for evaluating and redefining our own brands.

Marny will also discuss networking -- in what is bound to be a new light for many of us.  She will help us to embrace the true power of networking, teach us how to network "up," as well as showing us the common mistakes many professional women make.

SUMMIT & SALUTE

Building relationships with a potential customer is easier said than done. The challenge to shorten the sales cycle for most business owners continues to be the pinnacle that we strive to reach sooner rather than later.

These two challenges are at the core of what it takes to make a business thrive and survive in this extremely tight economy.

If you are interested in an event that can help you realize these goals then you will want to consider adding WBENC's Summit and Salute to your business development plan.

The Summit and Salute is WBENC's annual event in the spring that brings together a large number of C-level executives to participate in the "Top Corporation" ceremony that names the top corporations in America for women business owners, as well as every Council's WBE Star.

Yes, our local WBCS will recognize its WBE Business Star at this event.

This prestigious awards ceremony brings together top procurement and corporate executives, supplier diversity professionals, as well as other certified WBE's.

The event this year will be held March 21-22, 2012 at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront in Baltimore, MD and the major sponsors are Ernst & Young and Accenture.

The sessions during the day are dedicated to helping WBEs identify areas of new business opportunity, meet and network with other WBEs as well as Corporate Members. The Summit workshops are filled with "how-to" seminars that will help you target government and corporate business opportunities.

Don't miss the opportunity to shorten your sales cycle by networking among corporate and procurement professionals who are ready to talk business opportunities.

Early bird Registration is open until January 31st.

NEW MEMBER ORIENTATION

WBCS Orientation will be available in two formats throughout 2012 on the 4th Monday of the month from February thru November.

Our "face-to-face" orientation will alternate with a "webinar" on-line based presentation, so we can accommodate our regional members.

When you receive your "invitation" any member can register themselves or staff members for $5.00 (covers administrative costs).

This session is not just for new members but also gives all members a refresher on the "why and how" to use their membership as well as network with other members in attendance.

Face to face orientations will be held at the WBCS office

2201 N. Collins

Suite #158

Arlington, TX 76048

On-line orientation will require computer access.

TABLE TOPIC LUNCHES

Due to the remodeling project at Clampitt Paper in the Spring of 2012, members will notice a new location for Table Topic lunches at Brinker's Headquarters in Dallas.

David Robinson was his usual helpful self in securing the first Tuesday of the month dates through June.

We will be alternating lunches supplied by Big Barn Barbecue and Brinker's stable of great food sites.

Members, please make note of the "new" Table Topic location when you register starting in January.

Don't drive on autopilot to the Clampitt Creative Center....you will be all alone for lunch!
