What do the Colors mean?

Greetings!

The Colors survey that you took is now online and ready for your family and friends to take. Encourage them to take it. Results are immediate and include a comprehensive e-book to explain the Colors. Send them to JackDermody.com/4wps. Enjoy the conversation with them when they are done!

Green is the Color of the Week

Some Greens May Balk at Valentine's "Mush"

Green people (strategic-thinking rationals) are sometimes known for snarky remarks about mushy holidays. If your Valentine is Green, I have ideas for you. (If you are Green yourself, give us some commentary at info@jackdermody.com.) For those of us who care about our Green Valentines, we know they'll say that they care for you the same every single day, so what's the point of shelling out money to Hallmark Cards when they can choose to pour affection all over you at any moment. Okay, well, we all understand that, but Valentine's Day JUST MIGHT BE IMPORTANT TO THE REST OF US, RIGHT? So go ahead and give them the kind of appreciation they'll look up from their book to notice. They will thank you big time, and you will get to feel good about Valentine's Day for sure. So what is astonishing to Greens? RESOURCES ARE. Yes, give the tools that they themselves won't spend money on but they WILL go crazy happy with if they had them. Here's a short list to help you out. What piece is missing from a much-loved hobby? What hi-tech gadget would energize thinking or productivity? How about an app for the computer or I-phone? Got an I-Pad yet? How about playing Netflix movies directly on your TV -- got that gizmo yet? Or how about surprising your Greenie with a dinner guest who will stretch the mind with knowledge or ideas? A concert? A museum? You've got the idea now. Give them what they want. You yourself? The joy is in the giving. And, well, if you share an interest in the gift's subject matter, KAH-CHING!! Happy Valentines Day! Find us on Facebook
Are you an ET or an Earthling?

Did you know that the Four Colors can first be merged into two groups? Blues and Greens are ETs, while Golds and Oranges are Earthlings. Simply put, Blues and Greens prefer to live happily in their "ET" heads -- dealing with all sorts of abstraction and introspection, big-picture stuff, and endless new ideas. Those earth-bound Golds and Oranges prefer to deal with the concrete -- things that they can put your hands on, full-throttle reality, and practical solutions to just about everything. Just throw a Green researcher in the same room with an Orange karate instructor and watch them struggle nobly to communicate. Imagine likewise the conversation between a Blue philosopher and a Gold police officer. A way to test this out is to sit yourself down with your "opposite". Discuss something as common as a chair, for example. What does the ET (Blue or Green) care most about the chair? What does the Earthling (Gold or Orange) care most about the chair? Look for at least a couple of "You gotta be kidding" moments. Vive la difference!

What's YOUR Story?

You know your Colors, so what info would you love to share about that? Or about your relationships? Submit a story to dermody@cox.net. If we like it, we'll publish it in a future JackDermody.com Newsletter. The next article is this week's story.

Tim Brandenberg's Story: My Orange Wife Knows Best

About a year into our marriage, my wife and I started arguing about weekend fun. I'm the guy who buys advanced tickets to stuff, packs bags days in advance, and plans activities -- even ETAs at rest stop. My wife, though, will take a right turn off the planned highway within 30 minutes of embarkation. "I got an idea," she'd yell out. "It's going to be fun." Now my plan may be to eat at a unique restaurant. Hers could be a last-minute train trip through a gorgeous canyon. My plan is to sleep for two days in a timeshare. Hers  spontaneous inspiration is to hike around a mesa with breathtaking views in Utah.

Well, you can guess the end of this story. I'm can be less than wonderfully imaginative. Her ideas are usually more fun and invigorating than mine. I have learned to value my Orange life partner. She rocks. Most of the time, I just do what she wants and I know I will have fun. I should have noticed that when -- at the outset of our dating -- children, animals, and butterflies flocked around her like bees to honey. Today I am one of those bees.

Once you understand the power of Colors, most of your relationships with others make sense. And you begin to breathe easy.

Sincerely,
