HPEC 2011

 

Featuring Dr. Rachel Colley.  Dr. Colley is the Scientific Officer of the Active Healthy Kids Canada Report Card on Physical Activity for Children and Youth, and was the primary author of the 2008, 2009 and 2010 Report Cards.

 

The Health & Physical Education Council of Alberta hosts its annual conference in May, which provides an opportunity for participants to build skills & knowledge by networking & attending various professional development sessions which support the implementation of the Physical Education and Health programs of study. 


Health and physical education sessions will be offered over the HPEC 2011two-day conference. Session proposals will be selected to ensure a balance of active, interactive & research-based presentations. Topics could include Games, Gymnastics, Individual Pursuits, Alternate Environments, Dance, Health and Life Skills, CALM, Daily Physical Activity (DPA), Inclusive PE, Intramurals and Athletics.

Teaming UP for Youth Conference

"Teaming UP for Empowered Youth" Conference will be held in Calgary on April 7 & 8th.   

 

This 'Safe Schools Conference' features some top notch Keynote presenters: Craig Kielburger, Dr. David Wolfe, Dr. Marie Battiste and Dr. Claire Crooks.

The Alberta Centre for Active Living and Mount Royal University are proud to co-sponsor this important half-day Physical Activity Forum in Edmonton and Calgary.

 

This dynamic and timely presentation by Dr. Phil Wilson: Motivating Physical Activity Behaviour: How do we separate fact from fiction? will provide insights to practitioners and professionals about major developments in the field of human motivation, as applied to physical activity behaviour.

"Ocanku Duta Amani" or Paths to Living Well for Aboriginal Youth in Saskatchewan

This article describes a research program that builds understanding,  identifies barriers and facilitators, and informs programs and policies related to wellness challenges and opportunities of Aboriginal youth at Standing Buffalo Dakota First Nation in Saskatchewan.

5K for $6G Contest Launches in Partnership with the Calgary Marathon

The name says it all. Gather a school team to run in the 5K and help your school get access to $6G in prize money. Simple.

 

The 5K for $6G Contest is a Calgary area, school-based program to encourage students in Grades 4 to 12, educators and their families to get active, challenge themselves and have fun together by participating in the Calgary Marathon AstraZeneca Family 5K Run and Walk, a race within the Scotiabank Calgary Marathon event on May 29th.
