Do No Harm: A Few Words on Acting Training
 Rhonda Musak with Flowers

 by Rhonda Musak

One of my favorites from the archive:

More than every so often a student lands on my doorstep seeming bright-eyed and passionate and really hungry to learn more and grow as an actor.  In a short time, however, as our work begins a multitude of bruises and scars begin to reveal themselves.  It's at this point that my heart truly goes out to this sort of student because I always know what I am going to discover next: some form of ill-treatment that has resulted from the school of thought that acting training must be harsh or cruel in order for it to make an impact.

Here's what it's like to work with this type of student from an acting teacher's perspective...

Greetings!

April showers bring May flowers... well all of that has been completely turned on its ear this year!  However, the lesson still stands: what you put your focus on and nourish now begins to create what it is that you will live in the future.

There is no hocus-pocus or magic to it, just one step in front of the other diligently moving forward toward what it is you desire.

What propels us onward is a powerful VISION.  As April brings us more light, it also offers a deepened opportunity to illuminate our grand and magnificent vision in ways that really excited us.

May you prosper well-

Rhonda

Sub-Personality: Letting Your

Unconscious Lead the Way

WHEN: Thursday, April 19, 6:30-9:30
WHERE: West Village studio location will be sent along with registration confirmation.
FEE: $35

Join Art & Soul Acting as as we take a stroll through the wild, woolly and expansively creative unconscious.

In April, we will be exploring a dynamic acting tool called Sub-Personality.

Sub-Personality is an amazingly expressive acting tool that helps actors make huge leaps in their work by bypassing the conscious and tapping into the unconscious.

This work is particularly useful when encountering a character that seems challenging on any level of the spectrum.

 Actors will:

  • Be led through and experience the power of Sub-Personality work
  • Learn the step-by-step technique of creating Sub-Personality work
  • Connect Sub-Personality work to the material of their choice

I've never encountered another acting tool like it!

Created in 2011-but dreamed about for a long time-the aim of this workshop is to bring acting training to teens who might not otherwise have the opportunity to study professionally.

SAMPLE WORKSHOP SCHEDULE

Classes: Monday-Friday, 5-hours a day

Final Rehearsal: Saturday, 5-hours

Dinner Break: 1-hour

Warm-Up & Half-Hour Call: 1-hour

The group activities made me feel as one with my fellow actors in the workshop, and I believe the trusting bond was carried on from the stage to everyday life. I made friends, improvements, and most importantly memories to last a lifetime.

Recommendation: Yoga High
EngageI'm making discoveries all the time and want to share them with you!

Come join me for a yoga class at my East Village home studio: Yoga High!

Cited by the New York Times as "one of the friendliest studios in the city," Yoga High nourishes my body and my spirit.

The teachers are loving and knowledgeable and the music playlist always inspires.  The vinyasa flow classes leave my mind fresh and clear for teaching acting, and the cardio & yoga classes keep me strong.

I even recently attended a Yoga High workshop on sleeping better and I am so pleased to say that I am doing just that!

Studio owners Liz & Mel truly care and I am so please to highly recommend their beautiful Yoga High.

We love the drama of big life change - the splashy, 180 turns that take the journey
in a completely new direction.  But it's often the inch-by-inch, bit-by-bit steps
that transform us in truly profound and dynamic ways.
