Dive into Summer Programs
Did you know that for almost every weekend this summer we have totally nautical events that just scream awesomeness!
Saturday, June 16
Waves of Fun
Build a wave bottle with the crew of USS NAUTILUS. Using everyday household liquids we'll show you how a wave acts in the ocean. Take your waves home with you at the end of the day.
Saturday, June 23
Razzle-Dazzle Camouflage
We've got a submarine that needs a new paint job and you can help! Many ships that fought in the World War II were painted with a special camouflage called "Razzle-Dazzle." Help decorate our scale submarine with this historic paint job.
Saturday, July 7
OPSAIL CT 2012

Ahoy Shipmate!
School's out for the summer!
Well it certainly is in many areas and soon will be everywhere. As proms and graduations are held over the next few days, kids and parents are looking forward to a summer of fun and relaxation. The Submarine Museum and USS Nautilus are ready for the summer season to begin and have a full slate of activities planned for youth beginning June 16 and running nearly every weekend throughout the summer.
The Submarine Force Library & Museum Association has just mailed out to donors and members an opportunity to become a permanent part of the museum. We are offering laser engraved brick pavers that will be placed in the entry walk way to the museum as a lasting tribute to submariners past, present and even future. See the flyer or visit the web site at www.ussnautilus.org for details and to sign up.
Hope to see you soon at the museum. Enjoy your summer!
Sincerely,
Mike Riegel

Brick by Brick
"The Submarine Library"
was built in 1955

The Submarine Force Museum, located on the Thames River in Groton, Connecticut, maintains the world's finest collection of submarine artifacts. It is the only submarine museum operated by the United States Navy, and as such is the primary repository for artifacts, documents and photographs relating to U.S. Submarine Force history. The museum traces the development of the "Silent Service" from David Bushnell's Turtle, used in the Revolutionary War, to the Ohio and Virginia class submarines.
Originally established as "The Submarine Library" by Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics Corporation in 1955, the Submarine Force Library and Museum soon gained respect for its archival and research value. In April 1964, the entire collection was donated to the Navy and relocated to the Naval Submarine Base, New London, Groton, Connecticut. The name "Submarine Force Library and Museum" was officially adopted in 1969.
The museum's collections include more than 33,000 artifacts, 20,000 significant documents and 30,000 photographs. With so many holdings, the displays change frequently and a return visit will be a new experience. The 6,000 volume reference and research library is a world-renowned collection relative to the history of U.S. submarines and is open to anyone looking for information on submarines or submarine history.
Currently The Submarine Force Museum and USS Nautilus is creating a commemorative PERMANENT PAVER WALKWAY at the Museum. You can now honor the memory of a special person(s). This enduring legacy is a wonderful way to memorialize a loved one or honor someone special with a meaningful gift.
