Latest Lake Lanier Fishing Report
Striper fishing is on fire! The stripers are in their summer time patterns and are very active. There are a lot of fish holding in 30 to 60 of water over both river and creek channels from Browns Bridge to the dam. Focus on the edges of the channels in 80 to 120 feet of water. There are also a good number of fish in pockets early in the morning from 60 -80 feet of water. Focus on the pockets in the mouths of the creeks. The summer time pattern is in full force. Down line herring is always a good summer time technique. You may want to increase the length of your 12 lb. test fluorocarbon leaders to 10 feet or greater. Change your baits often to ensure they are "lively". Never reuse herring. Remember, stripers love to chase there baits. Downriggers and lead core are both working with Captain Mack's 1oz bucktail jig with a chartreuse or white 4 inch shad body. Umbrella rigs will work if you can get them deep enough and keep them out of the trees. Don't forget to put ice on your bait and try to get your herring down as quick as possible. At our current 80+ degree water temperature catching a striper subjects it to a lot of stress. Consider not taking "another" fish picture and instead release it immediately. Finding fish in trees is a much simpler with the new Lowrance structure scan. |

BIG FISH ON Spotted Bass Record Broken!
The spotted bass Big Fish Record was set in 2005 with a very nice spot weighing in at 4 lbs. 6 oz. On May 18th Will Thatcher smashed the six year record with a huge spot weighing in at 5 lb 1 oz.

Well, the record would not hold up for another 6 years as the very next day, May 19th, Josh Vaughn, with a little help from his dad Scott, landed a 6 lb spot. I could not believe it!
Not to be outdone, on the next day, May 20th, Ken Presley boated a 6 lb 6 oz spot! WOW! The boat record spotted bass broken three times in three days after holding for 6 years. Congratulations to our new record holders - great job!
