Lake Lanier is currenty at full pool, water temps are in the upper 60's lake wide. The main lake pockets, river and backs of creeks are slighty stained. |
Yea!! Winter is over. This winter has been one of the worst winters in over 30 years for striper fishing. The extended cold weather just shut the fishing down for the entire winter season. The great news is the fish are biting and the weather has been fantastic. Cool crisp mornings warming into the high 70's to low 80's in the afternoon.
April has been kids and parent month. We started with spring break and ending with birthday parties. We are getting more and more requests for fishing trips for children's birthdays with a few friends versus the traditional "birthday party". In each case we have had a ball. Nothing beats the smile and enthusiasm of a young boy with his first or biggest fish. The kids we have taken out have been very well behaved, polite and a pleasure to have on board. You may want to consider a fishing trip for your son or grandson as a gift for his next birthday. This fishing birthday party also works well with 40 year old kids!
Middle May should traditionally brings a good top water bite. Casting top water lures to points can produce some exciting action. Down rods with Herring and trolling are also great techniques for May. If you can get a day off work consider a middle May trip. We still have days open.
As many of you know fishing on the week end in July and August can be a trying experience given the number of ocean going vessels and otherwise crazy people running around the lake. By lunch time, fishing on Lanier can resemble fishing in a washing machine. Consequently, we have in the past not schedule weekend trips on Lanier. Mike and I have been discussing this situation and are considering offering July and August weekend trips of 4 hours versus our traditional 6 hour trips. This would allow us to start fishing at first light and get off the water at 10:00am before the lake got to rough to fish comfortably. Please let us know what you think of a 4 hour weekend trip during July and August. Please respond with an email to westkr@hotmail.com.
Mike is starting up Trophy Trips to TN, for those of you whom don't mind traveling and want a shoot at a high 30 to 50lb fish, contact Mike @ mikemad@bigfishonguide.com.
Now for some pictures. Check out the Kids!
