Innovative Solutions to Improve Your Health and Overall Well-Being
Moving and exercising with more ease?
By Rosie Liebe
Instigated by one of my dear running buddies, I read the book "Born to Run" by Christopher McDougall over the weekend.
It doesn't really matter whether you are a runner or not. One of the themes in this book is enjoying whatever it is you are doing: "If it feels like work, you are working to hard" says one runner to another as they are on a 100-mile run through the Copper Canyon (Barrancas) in Mexico.
Many of us forget about the fun part of working out, of moving, and instead we focus on the effort part, the straining, the working hard, following the motto of "No pain, no gain".
Just take a moment and compare how kids run - just for fun, not with exercising in mind - and how we run. Compare the ease in their movements with the strain in ours. You can take this observation and apply it to most of our movements and exercises we do to stay fit.
Next time you exercise, take a moment and check in with your body: Are you straining? Are you working so hard it's no fun any more? Are you experiencing pain? Or are you still smiling and enjoying every minute of whatever it is you are doing?
Every time you tighten your muscles, your body expends energy. When you tighten more than you need to, you expend more energy than you need to. When you have chronically tight muscles (because you tighten them more than you don't), it's harder for your body to move. Compensation patterns get created to work around some of those now chronically tight muscles that have forgotten how to let go to let other muscles work the way they are supposed to.
NeuroMuscular Reprogramming is a most effective way to find those compensation patterns and re-program/re-train your body to use the muscles the way they are intended to so you can move with more ease... and get back to having fun.

Back to the Core ... Starting Sept 2010, I will be working on getting my ITT Pilates Certification at A Body of Work in San Francisco. The program will last from the beginning of September 2010 to the end of March 2011 and will cover mat as well as all apparatus options.
I am very excited to be able to soon offer Pilates incorporated into your bodywork sessions - in a very unique blend. Stay tuned for more details.
PS: my online schedule accurately reflects my availability during these months. Most of the training classes will be over the weekend so my regular working hours during the week will not be affected.

Testimonials
"I've had chronic shoulder pain for almost
10 years! I spent 5 years on workman's comp with every type of
physical therapy under the sun. I finally gave up and said I'll just
live with it. It has gotten better over time, but there was still a
nagging ache.
I went to see Rosie 2x and she helped me finally get rid of the pain. Gone! I had made sure to get my work situation ergonomically correct
and I had been exercising. But she helped realign whatever was funky
in there so that everything was working smoothly.
She's a different masseuse - not the regular blank out, deep rub,
muscle mush. She actually works to make sure whatever is not working
gets fixed. Its almost like physical therapy. It still feels good!
But it is more medical -- in a good way.
If you have injuries or nagging pain, give her a call. She can work
wonders!"
