Testing Mania:
Test Performance is Not a Measure of Learning
"Research shows that children do not actually learn better when there is an emphasis on test performance, even when those tests are of the everyday sort children routinely take in school. For example, in one study children read a short passage. Some students were told, "After you are finished, I'm going to test you on it. I want you to see how much you can remember. You should work as hard as you can because I'll be grading you on the test to see if you're learning well enough." A second group of students was simply told that they would be asked questions about how much they liked the passage, how difficult they found it, and so on."

Holiday Basket Drive
I would like to thank the Santa Fe Montessori School
community for participating in another successful Holiday Basket Drive. The community resource center states that this year there were 1,550 households registered, which equates to over 5,500 individuals over half of whom are children and teens. That is a record need. Thank you for bringing hope and joy to families during these past holidays.

Re- Enrollment Packets
Re-enrollment Packets will be mailed out on January 19th. You will find all the necessary information in the packet to enroll your child(ren) for the 2011-2012 school year. Packets will be due back on Friday, February 11, 2011. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Parents' Association News
Many thanks to all who made donations to our Holiday Baskets food and gift drive. They were much appreciated by our community's needy families.
The PA has some fun events in the works. Look for upcoming announcements about Mom's Night Out, Family Movie Night, and a Family Barbeque Fundraiser.
