Living a Balanced Life

Are you a workaholic? Either in the office or at home? Or both? Do you take as much time to play as you do to work? Remember that if you don't recharge the battery in your smart phone, it dies. The same is true with the human body. Taking breaks, relaxing, having fun and taking care of yourself are vital steps to maintaining top performance - and living a long and healthy life.

Taking time to balance your work and your play can actually add years to your life. It can reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke, lower blood pressure, maintain healthy bones and muscles, plus reduce levels of depression, anxiety and stress.

10 Simple Ways to Add Balance to Your Life:

  1. Go for a walk - at work and/or at home
  2. Ride your bike - with your kids
  3. Set a wellness goal for yourself
  4. Learn - and practice - deep breathing techniques
  5. Sit less - watch less TV - move more
  6. Get a massage
  7. Work outside in the yard
  8. Learn Pilates, yoga or other new exercise routine
  9. Join a fitness/health club - and use it
  10. Watch a funny movie and laugh out loud

Words from Bonnie
SolSpring Owner & Director
 "Be a Lifelong Learner"

Right now, I am making plans to travel to Florida to attend a massage and spa industry convention. Can I afford to take the time away from my family and business? Can I afford not to? I believe in being what I call a "Lifelong Learner" and attending this event is a part of that process. I want to always be open to new ideas, new thoughts and new ways of doing things.

One of our Core Values at SolSpring is "Education." We believe that through the sharing of knowledge, we empower individuals and our community to greater awareness and ownership of wellbeing. As both healers and students of life, we interact with each client to facilitate learning that is beneficial to all. So just as we ourselves are constantly seeking to learn and to grow, we encourage and support our clients to do the same.

How about you? In what area of your life - personal and/or business - are you growing and changing? Sometimes we must surrender what we are and what we know, for what we could become.

Dr. Mehmet Oz Recommends

the Infrared Sauna

Dr. Oz says that you can actually burn calories by spending time in an infrared sauna. How cool is that?

"An infrared sauna is slightly different than a normal sauna. It makes the same rays that come from the sun and filters out the UV radiation, so it only gives you the infrared radiation," he says. "The radiation that's infrared goes a little bit into your skin so that, without heating you up and the external environment too much, it heats your body."

After a few minutes in the sauna, you can start to feel the heat. Dr. Oz says the high temperature helps lower blood pressure and increase blood circulation. "It gets your heart to beat faster, and it burns calories," Dr. Oz says. "It raises your metabolism a little bit, and also when you sweat, you sweat out toxins through the skin."

Next time you visit, plan to spend 10 minutes before or after your session in the sauna - and experience the benefits for yourself.
