Landscaping Report
|
The weather is definitely getting warmer! The neighborhood landscaping has been recently planted for summer. The flower varieties planted are Angelonia, Begonia, and Sweet Potato Vine. I hope you enjoy the great new colors. Some neighbors have suggested colorful perennials or planting bulbs this fall to bloom next spring. If you have suggestion or are interested in helping to plan our fall/winter planting, I would love to hear from you.
The neighborhood sprinkler systems have been running for a few weeks
now. They are set to run early in the morning or late at night. Not
many of us are up and around the neighborhood at those times. If you
should notice any sprinkler heads that are broken, over spraying on the
street, or see a street light that is not on, please let me know.
Thank you for helping to make our neighborhood a nice place to live!

Grading on Chenonceau
|
Have you been wondering about the orange VARIANCE sign on Chenonceau across from our entrance?
A grading variance was requested by Deltic Timber because they planned to remove approx. 150,000 yards of dirt from an area zoned for MF-12 apartments (multi family apartments with 12 persons per acre) without a buyer for the land and no definite plans for construction. The dirt is to be trucked to Rahling Road and LaGrande Drive to raise the elevation of the land for the St. Vincent Hospital project.
A meeting was held May 11th at the White-Daters & Associates office
to discuss the planned dirt removal along Chenonceau Blvd. In attendance
were Tim Daters representing Deltic Timber, Ed Oglesby with three
members of the Aberdeen Board and Kristi Diaz and myself from Bayonne.
The area to be graded was originally 15 acres and now has been reduced to 7 acres. The 100 feet natural buffer planned along Chenonceau was increased to 150 feet after our request at the meeting. The truck entrance is to be on Chenonceau a few hundred feet north of Bayonne Drive. The area where dirt is being removed will not be visible from Chenonceau due to the slope of the land. The project will last up to 6 months and trucks will be active everyday except Sunday. Upon completion the excavated area will be seeded. Additionally, Tim Daters has stated that he is working with the Traffic Division regarding a safe crossing plan from Bayonne to the pool whether or not the variance gets approved.
The meeting with the Planning Commission to request approval for this
variance was held on May 20 at City Hall. Kristi Diaz and myself were there, but the hearing was deferred until July 1, 2010. Work will begin
within 2 or 3 weeks after approval by the Planning Commission.

Neighborhood Concerns
|
As members of the Bayonne Place POA board, we receive many comments and complaints about the activities in our community. The following is a friendly reminder about some continuing neighborhood concerns:
Before You Bend the First Nail - The Chenal Valley Declaration of Covenants and Restrictions, dated November 17, 1989 requires that any structural changes to your home must have prior approval by the Architectural Committee. Request forms can be obtained from Chenal Properties.
2) If you walk your dog(s) in the neighborhood, please pick up after them. Of course there is a city ordinance against allowing an animal to defecate on public or private property of another person without disposing of the offending feces. As a matter of fact, just an idea, bring an extra bag along and pick up trash that is laying in the street and in the green spaces. It is not a lot more trouble and helps to keep our neighborhood beautiful.
Yard Signage - We have received many complaints about political signs in yards. While this is legal, please remember that these signs must be removed within three days after completion of the election.
Burn Permits- While your neighbors would prefer that you do not burn leaves or trash in your yard, we want to send out a reminder that you must have a burn permit, to do so. Currently, all permits are sold at the Central Fire Station located at 624 Chester Street.
Security - Knock on wood, It seems that the crime spree of March 2010 has slowed down. Let's keep on top of our security with the following suggestions:
- Become acquainted with your neighbors and watch out for each other. If you are leaving town for a few days be sure a neighbor is aware and will watch your home. Ask your neighbor to pull your trash can in from the curb the same day after the pick up. Give your neighbor a phone number to call in case of emergencies.
- When leaving town, stop your mail and paper service.
- If you have an alarm system, use it.
- If you purchase an expensive item, i.e. a flat panel TV, or computer, etc., do not leave the carton on the curb for thieves to know about your purchase. Break down the carton for pickup and arrange the carton where the carton advertising cannot be seen.
- If you see anything that causes you concern you are encouraged to contact the Little Rock Police at 371-4829 or if you feel that you are witnessing an emergence, call 911. If you are a victim in our neighborhood, please contact the police and your POA Board at BayonnePlace@aol.com.
Children - There is a lot of concern and a few complaints about the children playing in the streets and in other neighbors yards. Please talk with your children about safety and good manners. We are all afraid that a child will be hit while playing in the street. Also, some neighbors are complaining that children are playing in their yards and being very unfriendly and rude. Before allowing your kids to play in your neighbors yards, please have a conversation with your neighbor and ask permission. If the answer is no, let your kids know that they are respectfully asked to stay off of their neighbors yards. Remember, it is each of our right to control the activity on our property.

Other Issues |
Neighborhood Crime Watch - The board is looking for volunteers to follow up on previous efforts to initiate a neighborhood crime watch program. These people will coordinate with Dwight Davis from the Little Rock Police Department to obtain signage, program materials, and coordinate volunteer street captains. If you are interested, please contact us at bayonneplace@aol.com.
Social Programming - Is there any interest in putting together any of the following groups in Bayonne Place?
- Garden Club
- Bunco Group
- Dinner Club
- Book Club
- Coffee Club
If there is any interest please contact Missy Bridges at bayonneplace@aol.com or MBrid50765@aol.com
Garage Sale - We are hoping to plan a neighborhood garage sale for later this summer or fall. We would like to advertise a two day sale, arrange a Goodwill or ARC pick up, and have a dumpster available for our community to dispose of the extra garbage. The best time for this will be after Labor Day, so that we can place the dumpster at the Chenonceau pool. We will need volunteers to help coordinate this. If you are interested in helping, please contact Missy Bridges at bayonneplace@aol.com or MBrid50765@aol.com.
Bulletin Board- Personal requests -
Julie Peters is looking for neighborhood babysitters for her twin four year old kids. If you are interested, please contact her at 615-5180.
Melinda Spalding, 20 Bayonne, is planning a kids toy sale June 5th from 8 am - 12 noon.
