Switch Box Break-In

Reported April 15, 2010
The following report is from Challain POA President Todd Scholl

Please alert your neighborhoods that someone opened the Entergy switch box to a home in Challain between 4-5pm on Monday, April 12th and turned off all their power as the residents were away from the home just one hour. A blue pickup with a dented front fender was seen driving up/down the street during the time frame of the incident. A police report was filed. The home was not broken into but this type of activity is aggressive and leads to robbery. Chenal security has been alerted. If you see questionable activity call 911 for action and email your fellow Presidents.

This is a very scary way to be broken into.  Some of your Bayonne neighbors have begun putting locks on their fuse and electric boxes.  It is certainly possible to cut them off, however, it will make it a little bit harder for a thief to cut your power.

Security Suggestions

I have gone paperless and view statements online. I think that is what everyone is going to have to do or get a PO Box.

My mail was stolen and checks were written on my account for over $1,000.00. I reported this to the police, postmaster and our postal delivery person.

Checks were written to Lowes, Home Depot and Murphy USA. My account was frozen and I didn't receive my money back for months.

I also happened to pull up behind the person stealing my mail and reported license plate and everything. To my knowledge I don't know anything that has been done to this person:(

Tips for mail safety included in the April 2010 issue of the AARP Bulletin:

1) Use a blue U.S. Postal Service drop box for your outgoing mail or even better deliver mail inside the post office.

2) Thieves are stealing mail to steal your identity and to "wash checks". Check washing occurs when they cover your signature and routing-account numbers and soak your check in a chemical that washes the writing off. After washing, the thieves have a blank check that is signed by you.

Tips from the Duquesne POA Newsletter, March 2009:

1) Become acquainted with your neighbors and watch out for each other. If you are leaving town for a few days be sure a neighbor is aware and will watch your home. Ask your neighbor to pull your trash can in from the curb the same day after the pickup. Give your neighbor a phone number to call in case of emergencies.

2) When leaving town, stop your mail and paper service.

3) If you have an alarm system, use it.

4) If you purchase an expensive item, i.e. a flat panel TV, a computer, etc., do not leave the carton on the curb for thieves to know about your purchase. Break down the carton and arange the carton where the carton advertising cannot be seen.

5) If you see anything that causes you concern you are encouraged to contact the Little Rock Police at 371-4829 or if you feel that what you are witnessing warrants an emergency response then call 911. If you are a victim in our neighborhood, please contact the police and your POA Board.

Please keep your eyes and ears open for unusual activity in our neighborhood.  Let's do our best to look out for one another and take action when necessary.  With constant vigilance we can make our neighborhood a safer place.

Sincerely,

Your Bayonne Place Property Owners Association Board
