RGHF History Day,

Why I am a Rotarian, and

PDG Nancy Barbee

Happy Leap Year Day, 29 February 2012. How old are you today? Ten year old readers to the head of the class.

Register for our Bangkok events and visit us at booth #919 in the House of Friendship.

Special note about Rotary Heritage and History International Fellowship. After many years of allowing RGHF to host their website, they have found a new home, and it's very nice. Visit them at www.rhhif.org where they are looking for new members and will welcome you. RHHIF is about 12 years older than RGHF. We have been proud to serve them these many years. Our best wishes to their chair Christina Kloker Young. RGHF will continue a fellowship history for them as part of www.fellowshiphistory.org Is your fellowship's history there yet?

1911. The "big," names in San Diego were John D. Spreckels, George W. Marston, and Colonel Ed Fletcher. The San Diego Rotary Club was founded in 1911 as Rotary Club Number Thirty-three, Yet all three didn't become San Diego Rotarians until 1918, during Alfred D. La Motte's term as president. MORE...

WHY I AM A ROTARIAN

Susan Wierzba
RGHF member Susan Wierzba

I remember sitting in my brother Peter's office, three years ago. I was holding a rejection letter in my hand from the Peace Corps medical staff. I was rejected because two years prior I had been bitten by a brown recluse spider and I almost lost my arm. They told me that if I ever required medical attention it would not be available in any of the places that I would be sent to. There is nothing worse than being rejected by an organization that you were willing to volunteer for. I was absolutely devastated. MORE...

Polio Plus
Bill Gates and RGHF member PDG Nancy Barbee
"On October 26, 2011 a group of approximately 70 Rotarians from the Washington DC area met on the Capital steps waiting in anticipation to meet with the one and only Bill Gates. Mr. Gates had recently committed to a 3 year partnership with Rotary for the eradication of Polio. I was fortunate to have been one of those in attendance along with PRIP Lacy, Zone 33/34 RIDE Anne Matthews, and Secretary John Hewko. Mr. Gates told us that his top priority was to help eradicate polio and that Rotary had planned such an important part of that history. Please hear him speak to usBill Gates signed Polio Free India hats along with RIP Kaylan Banerjee, Past Trustee Chair Bob Scott, and RIPE Tanaka. I hope to auction these hats for the polio cause.
