NAMI California Releases First Comprehensive List of MHSA Funded Programs
The 1,600 programs serve hundreds of thousands of Californians with mental illness in every county
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (May 17, 2012) -NAMI California released its anticipated report detailing the programs funded by $7 billion dollars generated by California's historic Prop 63, the "millionaire's tax." The extensive report titled, MHSA County Programs 2012: Services Promoting Recovery and Reducing Homelessness, Hospitalization and Incarceration, is a compilation of the 1,600 programs throughout the state funded by the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA).
The Report outlines programs serving the estimated two million Californians in need of mental health services. One in 12 adults lives with a mental illness and one in 10 children live with a serious emotional disturbance causing significant impairment. Programs include wellness centers, crisis intervention teams, community college pathways, early childhood counseling, parenting skills, treatment for depression, suicide prevention, and transitional programs for people who are homeless. The Report is available here: NAMI California MHSA Programs Report and the press release about the report can be found here: Press Release: NAMI California MHSA Report.
Compiled by NAMI California, the Report lists all programs funded through the MHSA by county. This is the only comprehensive report of MHSA-funded programs and it provides a view into the wide range of programs, services and supports provided by Proposition 63 funds, serving the needs of communities throughout California.
NAMI California will soon be mailing two hard copies of the rather thick report to each affiliate president or executive director - one for the affiliate and one to be hand-delivered to the local mental health director of MHSA coordinator. Please be sure that we have your correct mailing addresses!
Thanks for your help with this project.

Duals Demonstration Stakeholder Update
|
To enhance its stakeholder engagement efforts for the duals demonstration, the Department of Health Care Services has sponsored the development of a new website to inform the public about this exciting program for beneficiaries dually eligible for Medicare and Medi-Cal.
The new site, launched today at www.CalDuals.org, will serve three primary purposes:
- Serve as an easy-to-use clearinghouse for up-to-date information about the demonstration.
- Improve stakeholder participation by creating new avenues for feedback and the exchange of ideas, particularly for the stakeholder work groups.
- Personalize the project and its impact by highlighting compelling stories of real beneficiaries.
The new CalDuals site will complement the DHCS website, where all official documents will continue to be posted. New content will be added to the CalDuals site on an ongoing basis. Updates, reports and relevant links will be posted in a timely manner.
If you have feedback or ideas about this new site, please email Sarah Arnquist at Sarah@HarbageConsulting.com.
Thanks for taking a look, and we hope you enjoy the experience.
