Please be a Trim Tab!July 23, 2011

Greetings!

Helping Hands
Together we can make a difference.

Trim tabs are small surfaces connected to the trailing edge of a larger control surface on a boat or aircraft, used to control the trim of the controls, i.e. to counteract hydro- or aero-dynamic forces and stabilize the boat or aircraft in a particular desired attitude without the need for the operator to constantly apply a control force. This is done by adjusting the angle of the tab relative to the larger surface.

In a nut shell, it's a miniature rudder. Just moving the little trim tab builds a low pressure that pulls the rudder around. Takes almost no effort at all.  So each of us as an individual can be a trim tab.  Imagine each of us making a small contribution.  If we all do this we will move the whole of our ministry in the direction we want to go.

In the 2011 budget year there is a time that is critical for us to do Trim Tab work.  The time is now.  The work is making a financial contribution that will help with our camps operating budget.  Every year, the most challenging time for us is the end of July when all of our bills; staffing, food service, program expenses come due at the same time.

To help us navigate through the end of July please prayerfully consider being a Trim Tab for ourFaith budget.  Please click the following link and make a donation to Camp Marshall.  Yes, I want to be a Trim Tab!   To make our mid-year budgeting goal we need 180 people to make a donation of $80.00.  Actually, we now only need 179 people to do this because I am a Trim Tab who just made a difference of $80.00 with my wife who is also a Trim Tab.

Thank you all so much for your support of this ministry.  To those who are willing to be a Trim Tab I wish to say thank you!

So, please, call me a Trim Tab.  In this way you will affirm for me that I am making a difference.  Which begs the question: wouldn't you like to be a Trim Tab too.  Please remember that our goal is to accomplish this by July 30th.

Yours in Christ Jesus

How the Celebrate Camp Marshall Campaign works.

The total funding goal for 2011 is $118,100.00

The reason for breaking up the goals is to help us identify specific areas that people can support.

The first two areas: Grace Camp and Camp Funds - deal primarily with making the summer program go.  While parts three and four of the campaign address both facility / program needs and long range funding support. The total immediate need $14,374.00 is the combined total we still need to raise for both Grace Camp and the Camp Funds section of the campaign.

On an annual basis - the first two areas, in conjunction with program income go right into the camp check book and are used as the program is unfolding.  The latter monies - are spent as funds are made available - i.e. when we made the improvement on the chapel we did so only after we had the money in the bank.  The first two areas are (what we are seeking right now) to cover expenses that come at the camp in real time.  Specifically, we can't wait to order food until the money is all in - or cover a staff persons salary only after the money is in.  In faith - we do our best to line up the summer program, share the need to fund our ministry with the diocese & off we go.  If the money is not there, we have in the past been supported by the diocese, which we have paid back with rental income later in the year.  This is not ideal and poses a genuine stress on the diocesan portion of the budget.  In this context, I am working to communicate more accurately and timely the funding needs of the camp as they are unfolding with all of our congregations.

On the plus side there has already been a fantastic level of support and we are still working in the context of our originally stated funding needs.  To be in a place where our immediate need is down to 180 gifts of $80.00 is really very good news.  As I mentioned earlier, this might look like 30 congregations each finding six folks who would make a gift of $80.  This could look like an announcement in a congregation or calls to six folks who would like to make this kind of gift.  We can ask in faith and see what comes.  If however, we don't ask, we will be sure to miss making the goal.

In 2011 we have been blessed richly by donations that are earmarked for specific projects - which have been both life giving and fantastic.  However, we still need cash donations that allow us to cover operational expenses.

I hope this helps answer any questions anyone may have.  I suppose what is most important to share is a deep and genuine thank you to all of those who have supported this ministry through time, talent and yes - treasure.

2011 Grace Camp

Grace Camp actually costs more than this due to the extra effort of renting vans for transportation, additional supplies for campers etc...  So every bit really helps!
