VOLUNTEER BACKGROUND CHECK |
Volunteers play an important and valuable role in the Maize School District. Students, teachers, staff, parents, and the community benefit from the work of individuals who freely share their talents and resources. Last year the Maize Board of Education adopted a new policy which requires background checks on volunteers who work in the elementary schools on a regular basis. These checks are done by National Screening Bureau (NatSB). NatSB provides the district with secure, confidential, multi-jurisdiction checks in a timely manner. Individuals who plan to volunteer may start the background check process by clicking here volunteer background check to complete the application. Individuals can also go to any elementary school website and click on "Volunteer Background Check Application". The form can either be filled out online at home or online in any of the school offices. Volunteers who work in more than one building only need to fill out one application for the district, not each building. Applicants can request a copy of the check when it is completed. If you completed a background check last year, you will still need to complete the application this school year as well. Background checks are conducted on an annual basis. If you have questions about the background check process, contact David Jennings at djennings@usd266.com or 722-0427. |

Why join MCE PTO? The biggest reason to join the Parent Teacher Organization is to benefit your child. In doing so, you also help your school. Other advantages are:
- Socialize. Provides a great chance to meet other parents and teachers.
- Make your voice heard . You can discuss ideas, concerns, and share your experiences. This is a more effective way for you to suggest change at your child's school.
- Noble Cause . By volunteering, you put your skills and hobbies to good use. Not only will your child benefit, but others will also.
- Positive Changes . You play an important role in fundraising to provide school improvements, equipment for students, and other positive items.
- Be a Role Model . By becoming a PTO member, you show your child that school is important to you. Plus, your child will see their best role model at work.
Questions & Answers
- What is the cost for PTO? The cost is a 2 for 1 - pay $5.00 for the Maize PTO - this will also cover the cost for the Maize Central PTO.
- How is the PTO membership money used? Membership money goes directly to the Maize district staff (Teachers, Lunch Staff, Bus Drivers, etc ) for school related use. Once membership money is depleted, staff will not receive a grant.
-
How many meetings do I need to attend? None, 1, or All of them. The amount of meetings you attend is up to you. By paying $5, you will not be required to attend meetings or volunteer.
- What if I do not attend the PTO meetings? You will still be informed of upcoming events and meetings via email.
You may join PTO at any time by visiting the website. Go to www.usd266.com, click Community Resources, click Parent/Teacher Organization, scroll down until you see Memberships. This can be paid online or print and mail in the membership form. Please remember that 100% of the membership fee is returned to the staff through mini grants. By paying membership dues, you are not obligated to attend PTO meetings although we would welcome any and all of you to support MCE by doing so. Thank you in advance for your assistance! OUR NURSE NEEDS YOUR HELP!
Occasionally our students have accidents and need clean clothes to wear the rest of the day. We have run out of a few essential items. We are looking for panties, underwear, and shorts/ jeans/sweatpants for both girls and boys. If you have these items that your kids have outgrown and you're looking for a way to get rid of them, we would be glad to take them off your hands. Please drop them by the nurse's office or send them in with your student. Thank you in advance, Stephanie Warner RN |
BACK TO SCHOOL, BACK TO SLEEP . . . Stephanie Warner
School is back in session! Now is the time to get the kids back on a schedule and back to sleep. Sleep is a vital need, essential to a child's health and growth. We need sleep to keep us healthy, happy and doing our best! Kids ages 5-12 need 10-11 hours of sleep each night. At the same time, there is an increasing demand on their time away from school. Homework, sports and other extracurricular and social activities can easily keep families out late at night. Poor or inadequate sleep can lead to mood swings, behavioral problems and cognitive problems that impact kids' ability to learn in school. Here are a few helpful tips to ensure your kids will get the sleep they need. *Follow a nightly routine -it will help your child relax, fall asleep faster and sleep through the night. *Make your child's bedroom conducive to sleep- dark, cool and quiet. Keep TV and computers out of the bedroom. *Avoid caffeine. |

PE SHORTS . . . . Coach Phillips & Coach Trail
There is a new face in the gym at Maize Central. My name is WendyTrail and I am excited to be at Maize Central every afternoon. This will be my fifteenth year of teaching. I have three children; two sons and a daughter. When not taking them to various activities, I like to read, or be outside riding my bike or rollerblading. One of my favorite things to do is go to the zoo.
Our theme for the gym this year is TEAMWORK. We are starting off the year with getting to know each other and working on activities together. |

Students may not transport medications. All medications need to have a completed "Request for Administration of Medication" form in order for the nurse to give the medication. This form may be obtained from the Maize USD 266 website. Please contact Stephanie Warner at 350-2715 if you need assistance.
- Remember to furnish the office with a copy of any legal documentation in regard to custody issues.
