Bonner's Bulletin It seems like the end of the school year has arrived too soon. It's been a busy time, with lots of activities taking place the last few weeks of the year. We've had athletic events, concerts, awards programs, prom and after-prom, a school play, and important assessments all taking place recently. We have had to make a change in plans for the traditional senior parade, graduation practice, and picnic. Koch Arena is not available to us on May 19. Therefore, the parade, graduation practice, and senior picnic will take place Thursday, May 20. The seniors' final day in class will continue to be Tuesday, May 18. We hope all seniors and their parents can attend the Pastries with Parents activity scheduled for May 12 from 6:30am to 8:00am at the Maize Recreation Center. This year's commencement exercises are scheduled for Sunday, May 23 at 5:30 pm at Koch Arena on the Wichita State University campus. Campus High School's ceremony takes place before ours, so we ask that you do not arrive before 4:15 to give time for the parking lot to clear. Our graduates are to be at the arena at 4:30. Community members, parents and employees are invited to participate in a resources review process from May 1-May 15, 2010. Please feel free to stop by the Education Support Center to review language arts novels we are looking to use in our secondary schools. Don't forget students who would like to obtain credit early or need to make up credits are encouraged to enroll in summer school. All classes will be taken on-line. A computer lab will be available for students who need computer access with Office 2007 or a structured environment in which to complete their lessons. The deadline for enrollment is fast-approaching. Complete information is available in the counseling office. Please remember that as you see your student's schedule over the summer, we are not making any schedule changes unless there is a clerical error, the student has not met a prerequisite, the student has failed a class, or the student wishes to academically strengthen the schedule. We will not be making any other changes. Before scheduling a meeting with the counselors to make a schedule change make sure one (of the above-mentioned reason) applies. Our final day of school is Friday, May 21. Please remember it is a full day of school for our students. We have several activities that take place which makes it difficult to get messages to students. We ask that you not call your student out early that day. Finally, I want to thank everyone for making this a terrific year and wish you a safe, enjoyable, and relaxing summer. See you in August!

ONLINE ENROLLMENT COMING YOUR WAY IN JULY
|
On July 1, 2010, the Family Access online enrollment portal will be opened on the district web page, www.usd266.com.
You will fill out all of your 2010-11 enrollment information and transportation form on a secure site for each of your students. You will also have the ability to pay your fees online using your credit card or you will be able to mail in a check for your student's enrollment fees. Families who qualify for free and reduced lunches and complete the Waiver of Confidentiality form will have their fees waived if approved. Free and reduced lunch applications and the Waiver of Confidentiality form will be available on the district web page after July 19, 2010. If you believe you will qualify for free and reduced lunches, please complete the enrollment paperwork but do not submit your payment until your application has been processed. Watch your mailbox the last week of June for a letter that will contain login instructions to Family Access so that you can complete the enrollment process. The letters will also contain instructions to guide you through the process and will be sent to the address where the student resides. Enrollment paperwork will need to be completed online by July 15 in order for your student's information to be input into the school's database and for transportation to assign your student to a bus route. If you do not have access to the Internet, you may come to the district's Educational Support Center, 11611 W. 49th St. North, between July 1-15 during normal business hours to log in and complete the enrollment process. Questions? For fee-related questions, contact Assistant to the Chief Financial Officer Kathy Pfannenstiel, at 350-2024 or e-mail her at kpfannenstiel@usd266.com. For other questions related to enrollment, please send an e-mail to enrollment@usd266.com, and a district representative will contact you. |
WEDNESDAY EARLY DISMISSAL FOR ALL STUDENTS NEXT 2010-2011 SCHOOL YEAR | |
Beginning next school year, all students will be dismissed early each Wednesday in order for teachers to have time to meet in their Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). During PLC time, teachers participate in discussing curriculum, instructional strategies, data review, state standards and more. This past school year, students in grades 6-12 started their school day 30 minutes late every Wednesday morning. "With more and more of our professional development days and training time diminishing each year, PLC time is even more critical for our teaching staff to improve instruction and impact student learning," said Associate Superintendent Marsha Beard. By moving the PLC time to the end of the day, all grade levels will be able to participate during a scheduled time each week. Click on the link below for the schedule of 2010-11 school starting and ending times. Buses will continue to run on the same tiered system. On Wednesdays, students will be transported home as soon as school is dismissed. Please plan accordingly for supervision of students who will arrive home earlier on those days. Pick- up and delivery locations for students being transported by school vehicle will be determined at the time of enrollment. Only one pick-up and drop-off location will be allowed at residential addresses or daycare provider addresses within school district boundaries.

| As we approach the end of term 4, it is very important to keep in mind that students are only allowed to have five absences in each block for the nine week term. It is the responsibility of the parent to call the attendance office to verify the reason for the absence. Absences excused by a parent are counted towards the number of allowed absences; however, if it is covered by a medical note it will not count against the student. So please remember to obtain a note from the doctor if your student misses school due to an appointment. Should you have any questions or concerns, please call the attendance office directly and speak with Pat Bobetsky at 350-2148 or Misty Dillon at 350-2110.
