A Note from the Principal . . .
We've had another outstanding year at Maize Central Elementary. Our students have done a wonderful job demonstrating positive character and performing to the best of their ability. The staff has worked extremely hard this year meeting the academic and emotional needs of each student. I'm extremely fortunate to work with such a great group of people. On behalf of MCE, I want to thank Denise McFarland (MCE carnival chair) for organizing such a great school carnival. Our school made a little over $3000. I want to also thank all of the parents who volunteered their time and efforts to make the carnival a huge success. We do appreciate it!
MCE will be losing the following employees this year. We wish each of them the very best, they will be missed!
Danielle Stucky - MCE Counselor Deanna Plank - 1st Grade Gillian Gaskill - 4th Grade Linda Bowman - Kitchen Manager Danielle Friesen - Structured Learning Teacher Cindy Pracht - Inter-related Para We would like to welcome the following new employees for the 2010-11 school year.
Andrea Dome - Counselor
(currently a 1st Grade Teacher/Counselor Wellington Academy).
Lori Gabrielson - 1st Grade
(currently a VPS 1st Grade Teacher).
Cindy Denning - Kitchen Manager
(currently Assistant Kitchen Manager).
Have a fun and relaxing summer with family and friends. We'll look forward to seeing you next year as we begin another year at Maize Central.

ONLINE ENROLLMENT COMING YOUR WAY IN JULY | |
On July 1, 2010, the Family Access online enrollment portal will be opened on the district web page, www.usd266.com. You will fill out all of your 2010-11 enrollment information and transportation form on a secured site for each of your students.
You will also have the ability to pay your fees online using your credit card or you will be able to mail in a check for your student's enrollment fees. Families who qualify for free and reduced lunches and complete the Waiver of Confidentiality form will have their fees waived if approved. Free and reduced lunch applications and the Waiver of Confidentiality form will be available on the district web page after July 19, 2010. If you believe you will qualify for free and reduced lunches, please complete the enrollment paperwork but do not submit your payment until your application has been processed. Watch your mailbox the last week of June for a letter which will contain login instructions to Family Access so that you can complete the enrollment process. The letters will also contain instructions to guide you through the process and will be sent to the address where the student resides.
Enrollment paperwork will need to be completed online by July 15 in order for your student's information to be input into the school's database and for transportation to assign your student to a bus route. If you do not have access to the Internet, you may come to the district's Educational Support Center, 11611 W. 49th St. North, between July 1-15 during normal business hours to log in and complete the enrollment process. Questions? For fee related questions, contact Assistant to the Chief Financial Officer, Kathy Pfannenstiel, at 350-2024 or e-mail her at kpfannenstiel@usd266.com. For other questions related to enrollment, please send an e-mail to enrollment@usd266.com and a district representative will contact you. |

MEAL ACCOUNTS | |
The end of the year is approaching quickly. In order to have the meal accounts ready to close out, we will no longer accept charges. Please be sure your child's account is up to date. Please note that your student needs to have the full amount of a hot lunch on account to receive a hot lunch, otherwise, they will be served a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Any balance your child has at the end of the school year will be transferred to their new building. When sending a check for your student's lunch account, please make sure your child's name is written on the memo part of the check. Thank you for your help! |
|
ARE YOU MOVING? | |
If you are moving out of the district over the summer months, please notify your child's school office before the end of the year. This will give our school staff enough time to compile your child's records for their new school.
Also, if you are re-locating within the district, please notify your school office of the address change so online enrollment information with login instructions will reach you the end of June. |

WEDNESDAY EARLY DISMISSAL SCHEDULE
FOR ALL STUDENTS NEXT SCHOOL YEAR
|
Beginning next school year, all students will be dismissed early each Wednesday in order for teachers to have time to meet in their Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). During PLC time, teachers participate in discussing curriculum, instructional strategies, data review, state standards and more. This past school year, students in grades 6-12 started their school day 30 minutes late every Wednesday morning. "With more and more of our professional development days and training time diminishing each year, PLC time is even more critical for our teaching staff to improve instruction and impact student learning," said Associate Superintendent Marsha Beard. By moving the PLC time to the end of the day, all grade levels will be able to participate during a scheduled time each week.
Below is a schedule of 2010-11 school starting and ending times: School Start Time M/T/TH/F End Time Wed. End Time ECC AM Preschool 8:30 a.m. 11:30 a.m. 11:15 a.m. ECC PM Preschool 12:30 p.m. 3:30 p.m. 3 p.m. MES (Currently VPS) 8:45 a.m. 4 p.m. 3:20 p.m. MCE 8:45 a.m. 4 p.m. 3:25 p.m. MCE AM Kindergarten 8:45 a.m. 11:35 a.m. 11:25 a.m. MCE PM Kindergarten 12:45 p.m./12:30 p.m. on Wednesday 4 p.m. 3:25 p.m. MES AM Kindergarten 8:45 a.m. 11:45 a.m. 11:35 a.m. MES PM Kindergarten 12:50 p.m./12:40 p.m. on Wednesday 4 p.m. 3:20 p.m. PWS 8:35 a.m. 3:45 p.m. 3:05 p.m. MSE 8:30 a.m. 3:40 p.m. 3:05 p.m. MSMS 7:30 a.m. 2:35 p.m. 2 p.m. MMS 7:30 a.m. 2:30 p.m. 2 p.m. MSHS & MHS 7:40 a.m. 2:45 p.m. 2:10 p.m. Buses will continue to run on the same tiered system. On Wednesdays, students will be transported home as soon as school is dismissed. Please plan accordingly for supervision of students who will arrive home earlier on those days. Pick- up and delivery locations for students being transported by school vehicle will be determined at the time of enrollment. Only one pick-up and drop off location will be allowed at residential addresses or day care provider addresses within school district boundaries. |

MCE CARNIVAL | |
Thank you again to all the wonderful parents that supported the MCE carnival either through donations and/or attendance. After paying all expenses, we raised $3172.73 for the playground through the bake sale, carnival, and unused quarters week money. That is amazing for our first time even with the rainy weather. We hope that the carnival will become an annual school tradition for families to enjoy while helping their school. If you have ideas for changes/additions to the carnival, please email mcepto1@gmail.com. We look forward to hearing from you.

MCE PTO NEWS |
This was the first year that each Maize school had their own PTO to work within the schools. Our focus for the 09-10 was the school carnival but we have been collecting ideas and information from parents over this year to help take our school PTO to the next level. Some of these ideas include family fun nights, providing educational information to parents on preparing for testing, and a place where teachers can post needs for their classrooms. Thank you for a great year and we look forward to working with parents and staff to make our children's school years even more memorable. Have a wonderful summer and watch for MCE PTO meeting information in the fall.

NURSE'S NOTE |
If you have provided your child with a prescription or over the counter medication at school this year, it needs to be picked up. Medications cannot be stored over the summer and will need to be picked up by an adult by the last day of school. Asthma medications will be sent home per district policy. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact the School Nurse, Stephanie Warner at 722-0427. Thank you for you help with this matter. |
