Dear BodyTalkers,
Welcome to my newsletter. In response to many requests, I've listed my Top 10 Tips for more clients in practice. The most common question that I get asked in my classes is about building up a practice. I have also answered some great Chinese Medicine questions amongst others.
We had a wonderful response with so many of you voting for your choice of which audio course I will do next. Both topics of consciousness and Chinese Medicine were very popular and the results were so close that I'm going to re-evaluate the format of my course and develop something that covers both topics well. I will keep you informed of a launch date. Watch this space it is coming soon. Thank you so much for your votes in this poll.
We also received wonderful feedback from many of you including Rita Shylesh Nair who said "I look forward to more learning and humbling experiences with Dr. P in the next year". We love receiving feedback and comments. I am working my way through the questions that so many of you send. Thank you all for your participation and being part of this community. Keep your questions and comments coming.

Top Ten Tips for Financial Success
|
Here's my top ten tips to remember if you want a practice that is rewarding on both an emotional and economic level. Taken from my 'Being in Practice Series'
- Act professionally. First impressions count, and how you present yourself, being well dressed and having a clean professional space plays a big role in whether or not your client feels like they have come to the right place. You need to generate trust so that they can relax - this helps you to relax and do a good session.
- Know what you do. Be able to explain your modality in simple language. If you want to reach a large audience, keep it simple. If you make it sound complicated, it will trigger anxiety.
- Know what to say. You are selling yourself and your work all the way through the session. Prepare yourself to be able to explain your procedures in simple language. Keep it short and sweet, take the mystery out of it.Your clients will appreciate your ability to connect with them in this way and be relatable.
- Tell them what's going to happen. Create a relaxing environment and ensure you give a brief explanation of how the session will go. Spend a few minutes being clear about what to expect. Take the fear and the mystery out of the process. When clients arrive for the first time, they are not familiar with what you do, and they may be anxious about what will happen.
- Be open for miracles. Know your role - your job is to know that the body recreates itself constantly so anything is possible. Act like you know this from a confident place. Your enthusiasm for the potential of each balancing is just as important as getting the right balancing.
- Be Amazing. You need to accept that part of your job is to be an optimist. It is your job to be open to everything that is possible, yet without promising specific outcomes. Take time before your session to center yourself in being amazing.
- Be neutral. Stop caring so much about the results. When you care about the outcome, you are wanting something for yourself out of the session. You can't be present to their needs if your awareness is on your needs or is in the future. Get yourself out of the way.
- Prove it. The only way to gain deep confidence for yourself and your clients is to know that you are getting results. This means getting good at doing intake so you can see changes in following sessions. If you don't know what has changed in follow up, both you and your clients will never know how much your sessions are helping them.
- Don't undersell yourself. If you don't show confidence in your work and your pricing structure your clients won't know how good you are.
- Know when to refer out. If you are not getting results after a few sessions, you should consider referring to a senior practitioner or other healthcare practitioner. Know when it is important for a client to see an MD.
Let me help you build your practice. Go to my website and find out more about practice building and my 2 part lecture series. 96% of participants who completed our survey about the 'Ethics of Successful Practice' course said they felt more confident in their practice and 67% of those who completed the course said they had increased their client base. If you follow these ten tips, your practice will grow both in numbers and in satisfaction. For more information on these topics and more about being in practice, see the 'Ethics of Successful Practice' and 'Excellence in Practice' audio lecture series on my website at www.bodytalkunlimited.com

Ask Dr. Ka'imi

Cameron Walker from New Zealand wanted to know "why the governing and central meridians aren't part of the BodyTalk system?"
The short answer is that these are powerful energy flows, and working with them can be too stimulating for someone in a sensitive state. We can balance the organ meridians either by balancing the organs or using the meridian balancing technique. I do use points along both the governing and conception vessel on a regular basis, but focusing on the flow of the overall meridian may trigger an imbalance in some clients. Strong visualization of these flows is a powerful qigong exercise that should be undertaken consciously by the individual, with supervision from a trained qi gong practitioner.
Cameron also asked "Does the meridian cycle (Chinese clock) apply to kids especially babies? I.e. does it take some time for this cycle to settle in?"
Yes, the rhythm is established right away. The engine that drives the meridian clock is the rotation of the earth, so the movement is there right away. But there are other rhythms at work in babies, so it is not so obvious. Because their stomachs are small and their metabolic rate is high, they just can't go a long time without food, so they do really need to wake often at night. But if the parents endeavour to make night time feedings quiet, dark, and supremely boring, the baby will be more quiescent at night and more active during the day, and this allows them to follow their meridian cycle with less tension and colic.
Brian Mitchell from France asked ....... "I don't like to bias the feedback by only talking about the 'successes'. What is 'success' in terms of a BT session?" I think it is a success if something changed - even if it gets 'worse.' Of course everyone wants to have their symptoms go away immediately, but sometimes they need to go through a different process. Many people have a been in overdrive for so long that their immune system is shut down. A good session may activate their immune system, which is a good thing. But if there is a backlog of old viruses and other pathogens they may well get sick for a while. This is essential to their healing process, but still uncomfortable and inconvenient for the client. Similarly, many people have a huge backlog of unprocessed emotions that they haven't dealt with and expressed. A good session may well 'stir the pot' and bring up very difficult issues from the past that need to be faced before they can be released - sometimes people will even go through a 'dark night of the soul' experience after a session. So when a client calls me to tell me they got really sick or really angry or really depressed after a session, I cheer just as loudly as if they told me that all of their pain miraculously disappeared. We are doing transformational work, not symptom management, and accepting that there may be difficult steps along the journey to being a new person is part of the job. Finally, we also have to accept that some symptoms will never go away - if the client feels supported during their difficult time that is a success in and of itself even if nothing has changed on the surface.
