Batavia Illinois, October 2010

At the Monday, October 4th City Council meeting, three businesses were awarded Green Business Certifications by the Batavia Environmental Commission. Awarded were Marsh Products and Water Street Studios were awarded a gold certification and Confident Aire was awarded a silver certification.

Based on the Clean Air Counts program (which presented a gold certification to our own city of Batavia), this program allows businesses to review their current practices and gives suggestions on how to make improvements. Topics covered include: use of products with recycled content, water efficiency and urban run off, energy efficiency, chemical use and pollution prevention and a waste assessment. As a business begins the program, it can use the document as a guide for future business practices and upgrade its certification.

Behind the scenes "On Golden Marsh"
We received a "Gold" and we are a "Marsh", and we wonder.....are you old enough to get our pun on "On Golden Pond" (with Henry and Jane Fonda)?    Not exactly a contemporaneous quip but it certainly has a watery correlation, and let's be honest, the movie is an oldie but goodie.
Despite our weak pun, we are very proud of receiving this Gold Certification/Green Award and of our efforts here and the commitment of our employees who actually sign written agreements to reuse, recycle, repurpose and more during hours and after hours.  Not an easy task, but much is due to the woman behind all the scenes at Marsh Products, Kim Valentine (pictured above), an environmental studies alumni of Colby College of Waterville, Maine.  Without her tireless quest for "green-ness", in-house training sessions, advisory meetings, research and  good example we could not have achieved this award.  (Yes she actually drives truckloads of books to SCARCE, a non-for-profit re-purposing organization to benefit schools, and advertises to collect broken electronics and does indeed haul van-fulls in her family vehicle to be recycled appropriately.... on her only day off!)  Needless to say, Mother Nature loves Kim Valentine, and we here at Marsh Products do too.
So our next project is to work on our Platinum Certification.  Yes, always trying to be better, make our surrondings nicer, cleaner, greener.  We want you to be proud of us, too.

If you are interested in becoming a "green certified business" in your community, contact Kim@MarshProducts.com for her advise to get you started.
